I would say that's my bad in the translation, but it's very hard to translate Japanese food labelling terms for expiry in this context without making it convoluted.

the milk here is frankly 消味期限切れ and what it means is it is passed its 'best before date' but it isn't spoilt per se, just won't taste as good. but it is considered 'expired' sorta, but it isn't like expired expired omfg it's full of Listeria expired. does that makes sense to you?

I think something like this is usually just called "not fresh", but that does kinda sound clunky.
