I think it was a lot of killings, along with the fact that their coup failed, so he feels like it was all for nothing.

Plus he said it himself, he viewed all races with equal value. He lived, they didn't, and he has a hard time processing why they had to die, what more that he performed the deed on many of them himself.

It's a fair bit of character development. I suspected he was a former assassin on the original single-panel version, but author didn't elaborate on it very much. For a moment, I was afraid Giba-sensei was about to make him a former member of the gang that did all that to her. I'm glad that wasn't the case.

The way I see it, he views himself so poorly that even the smallest bit of gratitude towards him feels undeserved and ends up reminding him of all the terrible things he did in the past.
He knows that he's doing a good deed by helping Reszurre recover, and that she views him as her savior. However, his negative self-esteem makes him think that this is merely a small drop of water in an ocean of sludge.

PTSD is a bitch and when she said something that triggered it in him. he HAS to come clean to her... to make her understand that he doesn't feel worthy of her happiness. he wants HER to be happy. but we all know that other characters also want him to be happy again. it is just hard for him.

i get that, i just kinda wished it be a bit lore slow burn with us seeing him struggle with hid past while caring for her a little bit more and then after some time she notices him being distant despite always cheering her on and then we learn the truth about his past. i just feel the manga is rushing thid and what ive heard from the webcomic readers this story was also rushed in that so idk
