It's weird how far the manga is behind the anime, it really goes into every single detail. I didn't check if there is a novel yet, hm.
You need to consider the light novels of those respective series. The main story on light novels are leagues ahead from both manga and anime so they have materials to work with, but it doesn't help the fact the anime has been skipping whole story arcs just to get to a certain point of the story. Plus, for the manga here, they're including those skipped parts, hence why this series manga is behind the anime.

i stopped reading the novel at one point, around ch303 or so, but overall it's a fun read. sad the anime ended, since one of my favorite smaller arcs regarding a specific "door situation" was likely to take place soon. if you wanna read the novel, i recommend Reigokai: Isekai TL.

kinda sad what happens to this boy overall, but on the other hand it shows the author trying not to save every character possible, which is a common theme for many series.

I've been reading the LNs english release and it honestly feels like the manga adds a lot since we're not locked into Makotos perspective. I honestly prefer the mangas pacing much more.

well this detail is different, it doesn't mean the outcome will change though.

Kuzunoha employees keep him from contacting Luria. The drugs turn him and a shitload of other people into a monster/chimeras that need to be put down, right at the end of the tournament arc. they rampage around town, all serve as a giant distraction for an invasion. MC's Students have to fight him. they win, he miraculously survives.......only for Mio to show up and decide it's better if he doesn't, so she finishes him off. IIRC his last thoughts were basically "I just wanted to apologize" (to the girl, not MC.)
is this spoiler from the webnovel or the light novel?

What the hell? A side character that realizes they are being manipulated by nondescript, mystery drugs?? That's a first.

As someone who read the novel I feel sorry for this guy, but it's all for MC's growth.
literally for his growth according to the plot. It's explained after this arc with dreams of alternate timelines.

Its sad that its this way though. As its not always for lack of trying for the anime studios.
But i dont completely agree with your view on manga vs the other 2. With the exception of the music part manga can at times be the best of both worlds. Giving you nice visuals and world building when done correctly. and in some cases ad even more to the world.(Ascendence of a bookworm does this in the Manga)

Even the bookworm manga has put in actual novel chapter for the volume extra... :thonk:

I've never been completely sure what the point, narratively speaking, of giving him that power considering it was taken away not long after.
