If I'm not mistaken, it's not that he's ugly by our world's standards, but that he is by theirs; the Goddess made all the Hyumans exceptionally beautiful by default.

We have seen others perspectives on his appearance, albeit showing him exactly how he is to us.

yeah him being ugly in the eyes of everyone else in this world really falls flat when he looks exactly like any other isekai mc, it doesnt even play up the goddess' vanity either because i wouldnt say he even looks less beautiful than any other character in this manga. and I dont remember if we saw how other people see his face, so I really need to see how everyone else views him cause it has to be crazy as hell

I really think that when the goddess cursed him with the inability to speak the normal language, she also cursed him with a layer of perception modifier, where hyumans are forced to see him as substantially less hyuman and therefore "uglier"

Makoto is a normal looking guy in his original world. It's just that the goddess made the hyuman all mannequin level. From their pov, our average is ugly.

It’s actually insane taking a step back and realizing how fast the anime moved compared to the manga. The manga goes really REALLY in depth on a lot of world building and such, which makes it pretty much a masterpiece overall. The anime highlights the major points and I hope it continues for a long time, just hoping no One Punch Man fiasco happens.

Root having that girl form is actually great. Pretty nice that he can change back and forth but I guess I should just not call him he and say they from now on. Also super funny that they’re going after Makoto so aggressively.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the manga tackles the big battle coming up. The anime’s approach was a bit clunky, so I’m hoping the manga really flushed out some of the movements and techniques displayed.

Eva dropping hints is phenomenal. The sus librarian is nice and helpful, hopefully she is appreciated more by him in the future. Her entering in after the temple being so arrogant was a nice palette cleanser.
