Okay, so she's definitely not as disciplined as the preview snippets showed her as being. Right now she's acting more like a cute 12-year-old playing around than a soldier / knight at war.

Hard maybe. I'd say probably only if she sees her "gramps" and the colonel get killed in front of her, which is... Honestly pretty likely given the story's direction.

I don't think so. He was never interested in the throne.
When he was a kid, he just wanted to support his brother, even after his power was revealed. So, he was sad that they couldn't trust him.
Now, he just wanted to live in peace in his territory. He withdraw the demand for the throne and mainly focusing the safety of him and his people.

But I imagine he will still end up as the king because the foolish brother will do more foolish things,

I legit thought the same... Like, obviously both are "bad" for going to war, but one side at least cares about THEIR soldiers, while the other is just wasting talent away in exile.
