Ah it was nice to see the serialkiller getting punished THEN killed.
to be SO evil that a god was likee "yeah right. i am so not supporting you anymore you little shit."
He f*cked up so hard that even the god that chose him as its hero abandoned him and chose Dragon-Irushia instead.
actually this part is interesting. for both the hero and the slime, you know the voice of god were talking with them directly. and even in the case of the slime, voice of god supported it until its defeat was clear. it's probably the case with the hero as well, until the divine skill got transferred.

however, despite defeating the slime, MC didn't satisfy the requirements of transferral of Asura Realm (as transferring Human Realm requires possessing the title skill Hero), so the owner of that skill is still out there somewhere...

Adolf found some unknown way to counter the slave brand.
the translation wasn't perfect. in the raws, the hero got cut off midway while saying "grovel". seems like the counter that Adofu figured out is that the command needs to be spoken aloud and fully for it to take effect.

The wait is so long, but the manga is real good! Also I checked in chapter 17 and the slime was supposed to become the demon lord, so the bad irushia being needed and all that is technically wrong. Unless of course that "god" can just make more. After all in ch 17 we see a lot of screens with the word "DEAD" on it, so maybe God just gives skills to things and sees what happens trying to make the strongest being?
specifically, voice of god makes the divine skill holders in order to make the strongest being. they can definitely make more, but not as often, it seems (according to the in-universe religion, it happens every 500 years).

ch17 is basically saying that MC was supposed to be the demon lord, but the divine skill that lets you be the demon lord, Asura Realm, was stolen by the slime. if not, MC would've been quite the OP dragon... and maybe more malleable to voice of god's manipulation

It wasn't enough that the guy was getting destroyed, they had to take his powers too. Deserved, but kind of overkill. Would have love to see him die as he was, but whatever...

all of them are called Earth human. doesnt mean he's summoned just what the species is called I guess.

It does it to distinguish them from beast people, I think. Though specifically calling them out as from Earth might be an intentional hint about the setting. The anime also refers to their language specifically as "Greek" in the subtitles.

Everyone we meet is definitely a native to the world.

Since @apinkfrog has reminded me, is the anime good yall? I've largely stopped watching a bunch of anime adaptations (unless its Golden Kamuy level of good), and I kinda want to know consensus on it.
It's pretty good, yeah. Definitely watchable for sure, and doesn't screw up important moments or skip tons of stuff like other adaptations I've seen.

The more light novels I read, the more I hate the medium. Every single light novel I've ever read sucks at describing things. They give you dialogue and the thoughts in characters heads. At most, you may get the most surface level, thread bare, initial description of a character. Like: "He was an old man, wearing a suit and tie." Afterwards, they'll never mention someone's appearance ever again. No description of character's facial features. No description of their clothing, body language. We sometimes get facial expressions. No descriptions of the character's surroundings.

Light novels try to make up for this awful lack of detail, with 5 or 6 drawings of a character or characters in pivotal scenes. Every light novel author: "Oh, I don't need to offer any sort of descriptions, because the 5 or 6 drawings will cover that." Except they really don't. Often times, not every character will be represented in those drawings. And those 5 or 6 drawings only depict a small portion of the total scenes that occur in the light novel.

What I wish, is that they would write novels, instead of light novels. The light novel format, due to how short they are, forces the authors to cut corners on descriptions, to focus on action. I hate it. A novel should be in depth. The whole point of a novel, is to create a theater of the mind. The author should be painting a picture for you to imagine in your head. Do the Japanese even write fantasy, sci-fi, romance, action-adventure novels? Or is it all just light novels? Or do the full proper novels exist, but we never get access to them in English? The more detailed a book is, the more likely they contain difficult Japanese words that are hard to translate. The longer and more complex the writing is in a novel, the less likely it is to get licensed or fan translated.

Are there awesome Japanese novels out there right now, that we'll never get to read? My fear of missing out intensifies. A few years ago, I tried looking for officially licensed and English translated Japanese novels on Amazon. 100% of them were compilations of short stories. What the fuck? Do the Japanese people hate long novels, or something? It pisses me off. They have such fantastic and creative ideas for stories, but it's mostly surface level. I want depth.

The irony, is that I often find the manga adaptations of light novels to be superior to light novels. Sometimes they'll piss me off, and cut out too much content from the light novel. But often times, the drawings in manga will fill in badly needed images of character's facial expressions, body language, clothing, and surroundings. It just sucks how manga adaptations are constantly behind the light novels in terms of story progression. And there is always the fear of the manga getting axed, and then I'll have to switch over to the inferior light novels.
Honestly this seems like such a nothing problem to me, if a character matters, you'll get enough of an illustration somewhere that gives you enough of an idea, and if they don't, then it is what it is

Either way, the LN medium is it's own medium, and if you don't enjoy it, then honestly your best bet is to just stick to regular novels, and popular manga (cause normal ones are bound to take forever and aren't guaranteed to not getting cut), either way, it's like complaining that manga isn't coloured, or manwha have a scrolling format, it is just how the medium tends to be which is what it is

Hmmm, I haven't really thought about longer/more complex writings in JP, light novels are directed to certain demographics (like all things), and their literature does 100% have more stuff that we will forever miss out on, shame, although it is what it is, if I wanted to read it I'd be learning the language which meh

I forgor what I was going on about, anyways your complaint seems like so much of nothing, especially compared to the comment you where replying to, so much of what you said feels kinda worthless

At the very least, the fact that it is such a popular format both in Japan, and outside with how many translations there are, is enough that it's fine as a medium, writing can be
a theater of the mind.
Or literal slop (cultivation novels and most fanfics, and probably other stuff), and as long as there is an audience that enjoys it (especially a decently large one), it has enough value that it far outweighs your opinion

And on a personal level, I disagree with most of what you don't like about novels cause I am in the opposite spectrum and enjoy them a lot (well, I enjoy most forms of writing so doesn't say much, novels, KN's, CN's, manga, manwha, manhua, although I do haven't brainrotted myself with a Xianxia or wuxia in a while)

Anygays, main point is uhh, I disagree with you

although that doesn't take away from your opinion being valid, light novels just not being your type is a fair enough reason to like them, you just sounded (some projection incoming, although could also be like-mindedness? Similar way of thinking? Synergy? One of those probably gives the right idea) pretentious throughout it which like, meh (that said, that is me assuming that is intentional, I very much enjoy being a dramatic twat, on occasion, very much a fun activity, although if that's not your goal, then uh, oop)

I'm 90% sure I lost the plot there but I made the main point about disagreeing

Probably summoned as his race was "Earth Human" instead of "Human" imo.
The earth in earth human just means he's a normal human, most other human character would fall under earth human as well

Alternatively, there would be stuff like beast human, dwarf human, elf human, ect, (well translation probably will be different, but it's x + human)

Hmm, so human is basically just "human like", while earth is the equivalent of dungeon meshi's "tall men"

in the novel TL I read, it uses earth huma instead of earth human, and ect for any other variation (which I won't specify cause could spoil), which makes it easier to comprehend, but like, as far as the world is concerned, elves, dwarves, beastmen, vampires, ect, all fall under humans, just with different spices

Gee, tell me how you really feel (sarcasm). I appreciate the level of detail you provided in laying out your criticism, but if you're trying to persuade someone to a counter point of view, telling them their ideas are worthless and that they are pretentious, is counterproductive. And no, I'm not pretentious. This is the way I normally talk. I enjoy long form, detailed discussions.

if a character matters, you'll get enough of an illustration somewhere that gives you enough of an idea, and if they don't, then it is what it is
Characters aren't static; they are dynamic. A few illustrations only paint a picture for those specific scenes. Even if you know what the character looks like, you don't have a full picture of what is happening with threadbare or nonexistent descriptions. Here, I'll paint you a picture as an example of how words can create a scene in your mind:

"Kyle planted his feet firmly on the ground and swung his sword in a left arc toward the ogre's stomach. The ugly green ogre effortlessly deflected his sword with a quick swing of its giant club. It moved its club with a swiftness seemingly at odds to its massive bulk.

As Kyle recoiled backward, his arms shock with the numbing vibration from the counter blow. He broke out in a sweat. Perspiration running down his forehead and into his eyes, adding an unwanted distraction from his life or death fight. Kyle knew he couldn't match the ogre's strength, size, or speed. He would have to outsmart him. Do something he didn't expect.

Holding his sword to the right of his body, Kyle began another swing towards the ogre's stomach. As soon as the ogre started to swing its club in response, Kyle abruptly crouched down and then completely his swing. The ogre howled in pain as Kyle's sword sliced into his calf. Red blood flowing freely down the ogre's green skin, and he collapsed to the ground."

Here's how that same passage would look in a light novel:

"Kyle swung his sword at the ogre. It deflected the sword with its club. Kyle backed away. Kyle knew he needed to outsmart the ogre. Kyle swung at the ogre, but then apparently crouched down and stuck its leg. The ogre howled in pain and collapsed to the ground."

See the difference?

Either way, the LN medium is it's own medium, and if you don't enjoy it, then honestly your best bet is to just stick to regular novels, and popular manga (cause normal ones are bound to take forever and aren't guaranteed to not getting cut), either way, it's like complaining that manga isn't coloured, or manwha have a scrolling format, it is just how the medium tends to be which is what it is

Just because I don't like something, doesn't mean it doesn't have value. I hate the taste of artificial mint. But that doesn't mean other people can't enjoy it. Me hating artificial mint flavor is an extreme minority opinion. The commercial success and widespread use of that flavor does not "outweigh" my opinion. The opinion of liking or hating the flavor can both exist at the same time and are valid. Neither one invalidates the other.

from what i hear loads of light novels turned manga the manga is better, its easier to follow the story and see the character and not only in a couple panels. which i completely get, and i hope good light novels will eventually be rewritten or be put otgether as one big novel.
yeah it also sucks because they are harder to translate ;(

But overall theres slob or easy to consume fast food light novels but well such is life there's always going to be the cheap quicker more targeted ones that are popular because they are easier to consume. quantity often wins against quality!
Now if japanese wasn't a fundamentally different language to english where words an have so many different meanings and such it would have been easier to translate but alas!

its always sad to think somewhere there might be some genius writer or story or character that you missed because you couldn't read it! like any russian, asian or south american and african one i'll miss since translating from their native languages to mine is tough, everythign from europe i can pretty much get.

Like i have a book, its part of my favourite trilogy i genuinely think its way cooler and more interesting than harry potter! its a teen fantasy book! once i have money my plan is to ask the writer if i can translate it to english or if she has any plans to do so as i love it so much and i want others to be able to read it! sadly its only in dutch!
I mean the magic system alone is so mcuh fun the main character is awesome and a badass girl! just cool!
