one thing i dont see anyone really mentioning is the convo they had shortly before this where she talked about that senpai being her friend and then when he confessed about having feelings for her she rejected him and they drifted apart and that she has to constantly reject people who advance on her. Imma be honest that makes her sound like she doesnt wanna be in a relationship atm and yeah i think any reasonable person who is friends with her would hear that and obviously not wanna fuck it up right?

That convo isnt something that you should have prelude trying to bait out a confession with, maybe if she was like "i rejected all these people because im interested in you" (something along those lines) then sure, but trying to bait a confession out of him is asking for bad results because its just mixed signals.
