Imo his respect was hidden beneath his massive ego to the point it made him unable to grow both physically and mentally once he got outmatched by someone else. Even so the few ones he acknowledges get his respect and tends to not underestimate them (Avan and his disciples mostly but others also earned his respect later)I like how Bartos's speech about chivalry acts as a precursor to Hadlar's future character growth. He's always been one to respect powerful people, but only under the caveat that he was stronger, or that they were on the same side. It's only after repeated loses from Dai that he gains a truly respectful view on them, and this chapter shows the start of that.
Nope! This is volume 11 and it goes up to volume 15 right now. The next story beats are (spoilers just in case):This entire series feels like peak classic Dragon Quest and more.
Thanks for working on this.
Is this gonna be the final volume?
Thanks for all the work! Ive been really enjoying avan's journey so I have no issue with it continuing even with THAT momentNope! This is volume 11 and it goes up to volume 15 right now. The next story beats are (spoilers just in case):
Volume 11:
Things begin to settle, but after realizing that peace from monsters doesn't mean peace for humanity as humans will now turn on each other, Hyunkel inspires Avan to be a teacher of future heroes
Volume 12:
Ghost Hadlar begins recruiting his new legion commanders, Hunkel and Avan travel and train and have their first encounter with the new group of baddies who use...Living weapons made by Lon Beruk
Volume 13:
I don't have this one yet, but from what I recall, Avan meets new super hot chick to replace Leira because we need fanservice, and begins learning how to use new weapons.
Volume 14&15:
Hyunkel attacks avan and falls into the river, immediately thereafter Avan gets ambushed by the baddies so he can't save Hyunkel or search for him, one of the baddies uses Clang or similar to freeze avan for TWO FUCKING YEARS and let me tell you when he wakes up and realizes he's 2 years late on finding/saving Hyunkel he is PISSED.Avan does the Avan strash with a bow and it is absolutely as stupid looking as you think it is and yet, I don't hate it
As long as the series remains popular in Japan, which it is, we will likely see Avan's journey up through training Maam and Popp, up until the day he and Popp leave Papnica to go to Dermline Island.
If we're REALLY REALLY REALLY lucky, they'll then skip to doing a sequel for the OG series.
