A lot of mediocre and poor-quality yuri is held in high regard by the yuri fandom
I find it somewhat weird. It's a behaviour you usually get by a more starved audience, while Yuri, from what I can perceive from the outside, is utterly massive. You'd think that would result in Yuri fans increasing their own standards, as they now have too much to read and therefore needing to prioritize the good stuff, similar to how gaming is right now. :thonk:

based. a good work is a good work. but i see many yuri titles rated 8.5+ yet they're fluffy non-stories devoid of interesting characters or writing. it seems more evident by the day that the only quality yuri i can rely on are touhou doujins.
this tbh. And it happens from time to time since there are literally no good rating system.

Now imagine this. A yuri fundraiser to continue the series, author need like 100k yen and it surpassed in just a few hours to 300k yen. cmiiw. Makes you wonder sometimes.

It seems that, simply by being a representation of girls' love and the LGBT cause, these stories are beyond any kind of criticism or scrutiny. I understand supporting a cause — I do too. But I won't give a poor story a high rating just because there are girls flirting.

For the fandom, representation is enough to rate a story highly

tbh all it takes is good art and a feel good story for most manga to get a high rating here. it's just especially pronounced in yuri

TBH, it really reads like a cult problem within the fandom. "Our stuff is beyond criticism against the evil outsiders"
Though, I reckon that the actually queer Yuri fans are quite a minority, given that both Yuri and Yaoi are very much still most often fetish mangas for straight men and women respectively.

Truest word has been spoken. This is literally what I got it. Even straight men will be in awe seeing a women kissing each other. Look at Brokeback Mountain

TBH, I personally don't see that appeal of Yuri at all.
Might be my 'tism not letting me get the straight men doing some weird by proxy stuff to get their rise out of it
