I don't think it was intentional, given that the enemy was clearly based on a faux-Middle Eastern aesthetic, but the way they shun gunpowder in favor of their own antiquated way of conducting war driven by outdated belief of honour reminds me of the mythologized pop-culture interpretation of the Satsuma Rebellion.

Seems more like the Turko-Mongol rather than Middle East.
