Day 18 of being a Roland:
As I write this, I've been discriminated against again by my local community for being different (Roland). I couldn't even go to my favorite lounge because they apparently didn't serve my kind. What’s it like working from home I’m planning on doing that some day

It was a change when covid hit - 20+ years of 'going to work' made it a non-trivial adjustment.

I made it a point early on to keep to a schedule - get up and get started working no later than 6:30 AM, be done at 4 PM unless there's a good reason not to, be at my desk and available to handle what comes my way for at least 8 hours a day. There were quite a few folks who had obvious trouble with this, and I still wince when I get on in the morning and see an email that came through at 8 PM or midnight or at 10 AM on a Sunday or something. Thankfully I managed to navigate that part pretty cleanly.

Depending on what you do and how you're wired, it can be a really good experience or really awkward. Best thing I can say is to be disciplined about it and be honest with yourself (and your employer) about whether it's working or not.
