After a long series of events they defeated the empress but couldn't kill her because then the deeply jealous god, who is Youta's psst rival and a total asshole, would awaken and they weren't ready to fight him. So they kept the empress alive as a severed head to buy time.
In the previous chapter they met a bandit leader who was one of the empress' playthings and held a huge grudge with her, they negotiated her help with yhe promise she would be the one to kill her when the time was right, to convince her they brought her to where the empress was in custody. Things then went bad and the bandit did kill the empress in her anger. The jealous God is now awoke but not at full power, still strong enough to be difficult to be dealt with, but apparently Youta can defeat him if he goes berserk to protect the girls.

Okay so when did this supposed defeat happen? like in the timeline we're told by Youta:

Kanejo captures the mother and Nishina -> Murders the mom -> goes to the event to mock Youta and wins Kendo -> The mother and Nishina are discovered -> Kanejo disappears.

There's no time for the event that Nishina claims to have happened to happen... unless Okamoto Lynn is gonna pull the ol' dissociative identity card like he did in Brynhildr and Elfen Lied and Youta actually did find Kanejo post murder of his mother and goes full blackout and doesn't remember. it'd be somewhat consistent with some of the lines Nishina has said about if Youta understood everything his heart would break, why Nishina distanced herself from Youta. it might actually fit and I hate it.

Or Youta lied in his description because the truth was much worse like he might have witnessed NTR, rape and murder of his mother and that totally broken him. That "tournament" event might just have been a metaphor for something else.

I honestly think the comments are way to harsh on this series sometimes. Yeah, it dragged on but not right now. We finally moved to the end fight we waited years for so lets enjoy that. Yeah, I don't want the fight lasting for years but it literally just started. Ending it too fast would do it no justice either.
Also I feel like no matter what Youta does, he's been called useless when in reality he's not half bad. In fact, its Leemarys fault Kinjo is alive but I guess we don't talk about that.

Yeah, the comment might've come of as a bit fanboyish but I enjoy the the manga for what it is and I'm interested in how it wraps up.

Have you read any of Okamoto Lynn other works? If so, did you finish them?

The reason people are being such harsh critics here is we all know we are going to get the ol Okamoto Lynn Super Special "Ending".

That is to say if you handed Lynn a good ending in a well marked neon pink transparent bag with a map, verbal instructions on how to open it, a complete diagram on doing so and literally walking them through the process... they still couldnt come up with a good ending.

This feels like we are in the endgame. But knowing the author there will be some other big bad or at least a lengthy flashback. All to explain how Kinjo got powers and how the earth is how it is now.

If we are lucky! Personally I'm picturing a nonsensical garbage explanation that will feel more rushed than a head on collision between two bullet trains. It will defy anything we've seen to date in the story, spit into the wind, tug on supermans cape, and will be pulled so far from out of the authors ass, it will be a plated piece of sushi still.

Is this really how this going to end lol, with a magic rage powerup? And NTR?

I'd take "retcon" that Youta disappears Kinjo, and he doesn't remember anything in his berserk state.

Which wouldn't make sense since it is Yuma who seems to suggest they travel to this world (ch. 181) either by knowing something about the future world or by committing self existence termination.

Or Youta lied in his description because the truth was much worse like he might have witnessed NTR, rape and murder of his mother and that totally broken him. That "tournament" event might just have been a metaphor for something else.

Except that also doesn't make sense since we had "fill in" parts that Youta could not have been there for like Kanejo's kidnapping of his mother and Nishina and why he kills Youta's mother (hint: it was jealousy that Youta had a loving mother). Then we also see Kanejo meet up with Yuma without a single scratch on him and it's implied to be right after the tournament where she suggest they go "In that case let's leave this all behind" (Ch. 181), now does she know about the other world or is she suggesting self existence termination? that's up for debate, but what is clear is the Kanejo and Yuma were never found according to Youta. there is no time for the incident that Nishina describes here to have taken place.

I agree I mean im still here too. Im holding out hope he can push an absolute diamond out of his asshole and surprise us all. But I have the distinct feeling this is going to be an unpolishable turd.
