Nah, this feels warranted. The evil country's plans seem long term so nothing should happen that suddenly, and carefully infiltrating and understanding the situation should be the best approach to thoroughly preparing any required countermeasures and foiling any of their evil plans.

What if Yuuji dispels the curse on the populace and the ringleaders immediately activate a nuke they had stashed away in some basement? That would be par for the course with the evil organizations in that world.

I would say taking an entire week to 100% comb the city, after it became clear that anything major was most likely to be found in the castle, was excessive and he should've thought about his approach to dealing with the castle's possible security measures much earlier, but the general approach is decent.

Yeah, I had a thought about that after posting, if the enslavement doesn't work anymore they could activate a mass-human sacrifice device.
There could even be a spell, not a curse, on the enslaved subjects that kills them if they get freed for any reason, that would make MC holding off on freeing them the right choice later.
