What I hope is going on is that Nanao is engaging and pushing the losing trio not because she wants competition, at least not maliciously so, but rather to make them uncomfortable with the preceding and now changed status quo. All three were heads over heals for Izumi, and none had the gonads to leave their comfort zones.
But now, with her on the playing field, and ahead by leaps and bounds, (and I'll stick with the game metaphor here) she aims not to beat the other girls, but to raise them, to enable them to participate and play in the same game, even though they'll still lose. Because once the Izumi game is over and Nanao won, only then and with the experience they gained during that game, will the trio have the experience to play competently in whatever game they engage in next.
