It's fascinating to see how hard the author is working to recontextualize those early chapters. It's very likely she was simply making stuff up as she went along for quite a bit. In chapter 3, when we see the top of the exam leaderboards, the person ranked second is literally called "Nii Jirou". As in, the literal number two, and the given name that a dictionary just told me literally means "second son" and is given to the second-born son in the family. That's the level of long-term planning she was working with in those early chapters. And it left Tsubaki coming off more villainous early on than she ended up being later.
The good thing about taking breaks for maternal leave is that it leaves you with a lot of time to just plan and fix shit.
