The grandma is way too blunt and honest with Tsubaki, and it looks like there’s going to be a misunderstanding between MC’s mom and Tsubaki in the next chapter :haa: To be fair, his mom’s gaze really does look cold and stiff.

Oh God yes, inject that post-confession romcom fluff right into my veins. That's the good stuff alright.

It's fascinating to see how hard the author is working to recontextualize those early chapters. It's very likely she was simply making stuff up as she went along for quite a bit. In chapter 3, when we see the top of the exam leaderboards, the person ranked second is literally called "Nii Jirou". As in, the literal number two, and the given name that a dictionary just told me literally means "second son" and is given to the second-born son in the family. That's the level of long-term planning she was working with in those early chapters. And it left Tsubaki coming off more villainous early on than she ended up being later.

The good thing about taking breaks for maternal leave is that it leaves you with a lot of time to just plan and fix shit.

Considering how awkward Tadashi is; his mother being part of a messy divorce and how sad/reflective she was after realising her son has a girlfriend, I reckon the reason she's acting "cold" is just her being awkward and not knowing how to handle the situation.

This likely isn't the reason for the cold attitude, but considering where she was staring, I'll join in the camp of "the father's mistress was big".

Either trying very hard to not let her nervousness show, which comes across as cold, or she is wary of what this girlfriend is like since her own love life was a mess.

two ways this end, she's an overbearing mother who doesnt want her son to get "stolen"
she has beef with Tsubaki's family, and not tsubaki specifically

Recontextualise is certainly a word you could use. Correct me if I'm wrong though but wasn't early Tsubaki literally trying to get rid of Tadashi in the manner described as being villainous, thus earning the moniker?
I'm not naiive enough to believe this was a long term plan of the author to redeem her either. So many manga are written by the seat of the mangaka's pants that I doubt this was even a thought in the author's head before having her baby.

Expecting this ojou-sama to use her son and throw him away just like what happened to her is a reasonable concern.
