To be fair, I think it's mostly to explain why they can't/wont use it all the time. IMO it's a better excuse than another common trope of "I can only use it once per day! Because reasons!".

just a small correction, but rather than turning into a hydra, it looked more like it turned into yamata no orochi, which is an evil monster from japanese mythology usually depicted as a snake with 8 heads

Yeah, the dialog was all over the place this chapter. I did what I could to smooth it out, but there are limits to everything. Next chapter will be different though. Having just double-checked, the next few chapters if not the rest of the volume are packed and will be good. So look forward to them!
