"Hey, you know what would be a very good, not at all bad idea? Picking a fight with my kitsune ex in public!"

Thanks for the chapter (and for doing the extra work to keep bringing us this series)!

The author started doing these watermarks, a few months after your team started uploading this story to english.
As much as it pains me to say it. I think the author is specifically doing this to spite you in particular. :meguuusad:

Yeah, I started doing it in June 2024 (dang, two years!) and the watermarks started half a year later in Nov 2024. But he really does seem mostly concerned about AI training and could ask me to stop if I were his big bugaboo - I did DM him!

After my previous comment, I went and did a little research.

Lowk i think its only a coincidence, until anything is confirmed.
If Zanma did take notice and is watching this, hello!

Chapters 3 with some tidbits in chapters 9, 12 and 13.
okay, so, in ch.3 Kogane says they promised to marry but then she waited and he never came to pick her up. And then when she came to check on him, supposedly after quite a while, maybe decade later, looks like he had a human wife or something. That feels like a big misunderstanding. Miscommunication of sorts maybe. But then at ch.12 there's a line, supposedly from him, which hints that he didn't forget about her or anything, but simply dismissed this whole marriage deal with her. Now that's kinda curseworthy

I guar-um-tay I will have 130.2 out Saturday morning (well, 99.999%, certainly can't rule out global chaos).

I kind of gave it away last time, because other than Kanasaka there were only two a$$-holes left. This guy and Goro's other old boss. But congrats to @Karamru for figuring that!
Damn bro making a whole dedicated program just to remove a low quality watermark. Thanks for your hard work!

Someone needs to teach Zanma sensei about adverserial noise. To us humans it is near imperceptible and wont really affect the quality. To an AI it will make his work look like static noise and damage the model with bad training data.

Even for christmas zanma-sensei added a special overtime line for Goro...ouch

As for AI-countermeasures...well, I pity illiterate artists who still hope it somehow counters soulless programs which get better by day, especially last gen neural networks. I just hope zanma-sensei will understand soon and will prioritise the comfort of his readers. And as for C# program...well, im an inglorious basterd so I just advice to sarusa to...pff...to use...some ai watermark remover....pfffft hahahahahahahaha

Oh, so this is the notorious former fiance. I kinda forgot about what happened between them or smth...I would like a chapter number to refresh my memory

I remember some authors who answered with explicitly forbidding to translate their manga, and those honest translators dropping their work right away. We were losing translations, author were losing foreign auditory...the only one who were in advantage were probably publishers, who were planning to do some "official" translations later, but if those plans were staying never realised in the end...you know
Ive seen a small handful of authors actually recognize the benefits of scans and ended up working with the fan translators. They would shill the author's merch, help wil votes and polls and his twitter followers grew.

As Gaben said, piray is a service problem. If they work together there is so much more to gain

It's not working together. It's employing someone for handling marketing. Unconventional marketing perhaps, but still marketing. The author holds all the power in such a relationship and can pull the rug out from the other party whenever he whishes. Said other party in turn will soon find themselves doing the manga industry equivalent of "turning players to payers" rather than doing scanlation. Hopefully they at least wouldn't be dumb enough to agree to this without pay...

Employee employer relationship is literally working together. They do work... with each other... together lol.

Idk if they were getting paid, probably not since it was a Twitter web manga. Still, the author gave exclusive rights for the translation to the one group as long as they had the author's Twitter and made it free (the original is also free on Twitter).

Many scanlators do it for the love of the game. Being recognized, thanked and even promoted by the author is often more than enough for some and i don't blame them. I know I've done work for free/ incredibly cheap before for good friends

Come now, you know that was not what you meant by "working together", hence my point.

Call me old fashined or blinded by nostalgia, but this is how it should be. In years past, scanlators that didn't work purely as a hobby were the exception (and not very well regarded). Honestly, I blame much of today's issues, like trash, illegible releases, paywalls and the drama between groups on people normalizing the idea that they should be able to profit from this. This is why I simply don't see an author having the same interests as a proper scanlator, at least not long-term. Unless of course he never plans to publish his work for profit at all.

I've no idea what the fuck you're on about. Its obvious the author has more power in the relationship, but its still cooperation. Aka working together.

At best youre giving off old man yells at clouds vibes. First you call them dumb for doing scans without pay and now you say its better when its done purely as a hobby without pay. Make up your mind.

If a group was planning on doing scans anyways, the author finding out and agreeing to give them official permission and being on friendly terms is obviously better than not.

I see you have American-level reading comprehension, so let me clarify as simply as I can. No, I called them dumb for accepting the kind of deal I described, not for scanlating for no profit. Of course, since you didn't give any names, "them" refers to a hypothetical scanlator that's relevant to the topic. That really should not have confused you so, given my second post, so I sincerely hope you won't misconstrue it any further after this.

I'm repeating myself here, but the whole point is an author will not be on "friendly" terms with scanlators, unless he's also purely a hobbyist. If not, then his interests clash with what an actual scanlator does, hence any "cooperation" would necessarily be heavily laden with conditions that turn said scanlator into something no longer fitting the term. So no, it's certainly not better for the community nor the ex-scanlator, unless he's getting paid well enough to make it worth not being able to choose what and how he releases.
