While I understand Zanma-sensei's stance against generative AI, it's a shame that genAI is so all-consuming that reasonable measures only effect non-AI users.
While I don't think the confrontation with Kogane's ex will be overly dramatic (though, iirc, I think she cursed him, so he's probably not having a great time), I do think that this may be a counterbalance to the lessons of the last few chapters. If humans should not fight yokai, then yokai should not fight humans. You want a chance to show your strength to your fiance? Now's your chance, Goro. Thanks as always to sarusa and Thumper.

I doubt that would work. This isn't some social media self-publish work. Chances are the artist doesn't have the authority to give distribution rights to anyone else. The era of mangaka-approved scanlations was mostly from people who posted stuff on twitter or free on pixiv or whatever. And even still I imagine there's a lot of negative reception about pirate scanlation among the Japanese manga community because it's sharing the work with the author getting no compensation for it.

Not explicitly - I actually reached out on pixiv and got nothing back. But he didn't say no either. This is kind of common in scanlation - if it's no, they'll just say 'no'. But if they actually reply 'sure, scanlate my stuff' then they've agreed to giving their work away in 'writing'. Some artists don't care, but others do. So legally, pretending it never happened is the best way to go for them.

Anyhow, if he did give me high quality raws and I posted them, then he might as well just post those in the first place.

I'm fine with the current state of affairs - I have to do a little more work, but it's not onerous. I think the result looks okay. And then I added his 'watermark' at the bottom again. He does his thing, I do my thing, and as far as he's concerned the English version doesn't exist.

Though like I said, the worst thing is the AI slurpers will just ignore it either way and use his raws and my scanlations for training anyhow. Because that's what they do.

My understanding is that it's exactly some Pixiv self-published work, the author has full authority over the rights because he's the only one involved, and that the author is getting no compensation for it regardless.

Yeah I have noticed some Pixiv artists started watermarking stuff, suspiciously around the same time people started reposting their works retranslated here.

I think some of them have become wary of Mangadex, and now look up their own works here.

The author started doing these watermarks, a few months after your team started uploading this story to english.

As much as it pains me to say it. I think the author is specifically doing this to spite you in particular.

As for AI-countermeasures...well, I pity illiterate artists who still hope it somehow counters soulless programs which get better by day, especially last gen neural networks. I just hope zanma-sensei will understand soon and will prioritise the comfort of his readers. And as for C# program...well, im an inglorious basterd so I just advice to sarusa to...pff...to use...some ai watermark remover....pfffft hahahahahahahaha

I remember some authors who answered with explicitly forbidding to translate their manga, and those honest translators dropping their work right away. We were losing translations, author were losing foreign auditory...the only one who were in advantage were probably publishers, who were planning to do some "official" translations later, but if those plans were staying never realised in the end...you know
