...it's chapters like this that make me hate this manga sometimes. And it's not about Kaibara weasel-wording his way into a rematch to avoid losing face and managing to turn a straight loss into a draw, because Yamaoka's done the same thing, or had others do it in his behalf. (Granted, I still don't like it, but it's a tolerable dislike.) It's that Yamaoka and Kurita are left with the impression once again that Kaibara is an untouchable gourmet god who simply let them win when Kaibara was genuinely backed into a corner and forced to pull a draw. The fact that our heroes don't have that knowledge, that they're left relieved that Kaibara "spared" them when he actually came this close to an outright, genuine, food choice and skill-based loss just pisses me off. That's what makes this chapter so shitty, in my opinion. Unbelievable...
I remember you saying something like this in a previous chapter, and honestly I agree. Sometimes the win that Kaibara pulls is just absurd. There were times the reason for the loss was due to a mistake that contradicts what Yamaoka should have already known (even if it's chalked up as carelessness, still). Sometimes the reasoning for the verdict from the judges just sounds like total BS....it's chapters like this that make me hate this manga sometimes.
