Thanks for the translation! Such an interesting chapter.

Art was great and it really felt good to have a new Berserk content after 9 months. But this "chosen one" obsession of Japan kills me. I didn't like the idea of Griffith crowned as Femto was part of the "destiny" in the first place and now "oh, but all the power was already within you". Just give this trope a rest.

While i understand where you are coming from and also think so, Berserk always had a very "Destined One" theme already showing in the Golden Age arc. Guts situation was always very intermixed with destiny and esoteric astral world stuff (as they also mention here: since the beginning, being born from death). Him being outside of causality was also mentioned more than once before and was the reason why he survived situations other did not. So at least Berserk does it properly and really makes destiny its theme instead of some other stories where its just: oh yeah, you are the chosen one, have fun winning.

I mean, the removed chapter that revealed the idea of god directly told us that this world is working on belief and thereby shaping itself & predetermining its future by believing itself to be this way and reinforcing itself along the way. Guts being born outside of that by pure happenstance, not by someones will is pretty much the opposite of the chosen one. Nobody chose him, it was random chance that birthed his unique situation and enabling him to be the monkey wrench in destinies machinery. His situation gives him the unique option to fight back, but it doesn't guarantee his win.

Can at least make Guts search for his parents first before introducing the idea that he is demi-god.
Why it feel so rushed, or its just me?
Yeah, I also would have liked a bit more time for this pretty important moment. For him to reflect a bit more, maybe getting challenged (rhetorically) by somebody from the astral world, being his guide to help this reunion. And also, what the hell did his astral body part do all this time? Just hanging around the astral world as a baby the whole time? How did it survive?

Edit: Now that I thought a bit more: Why did that astral world counterpart never show itself before? Or is the mysterious child they found during the boat arc his astral counterpart?

Thanks for the TLs. Art looks like etchings, which is really cool.
Isn't it rushed because Mori made a public commitment to only go from the stuff he got from Miura and not add his own. If Miura kept going we'd be meandering with all sorts of fantastical filler, which would still be enjoyable.

We're going with the "Two sides of the same coin" trope?
At first I was like "really?"
But then I realized it's a return to form.

After reading this chapter, I can understand the delay. This chapter had to take events and elements from nearly 40 years, things we already felt we understand, and completely recontextualize them, cast them in a new light so that we understand the way forward. This chapter is a big answer, if not THE answer, to the questions we've been asking, and I thought it was excellent. Thanks to Evil Genius for this and all chapters over the years.

So nice to have Berserk back. Also this revelation about Guts living on the edge between the material and spiritual worlds was being hinted for quite some time. :wooow:

I wonder if Guts will die and be reborn through his Astral young self? It showed young guts falling into the lap of older Guts it kind of seems they are making a big deal out of his birth and that he lives on the edge of both worlds/realms. If that is the case then I am not sure how he will hunt and kill the GH and Griffith my only guess is either through some huge powerup from that realm or he pulls them into that realm that he can access somehow where they might be vulnerable for once.

You'll excuse me for not remembering all the details after this long while, but has the fire spirit helping him appeared before?

We've known from the very beginning. Guts was born with his foot in the grave. It was something Skull Knight said as well.
