I have Japanese keyboards set on my devices, and it’s simple: they use romanji, and the software replace with the most likely kanji/hiragana/katakana based on context, and there’s a menu with all other possible ones if you need to change it. (And yeah, it’s actually 3 different scripts! And they are specifically not alphabets, the kanjis are a logographic system, using logograms, and the kanas are syllabaries. Not many people know this without studying languages very deeply, but I love talking about it.)

To get this, I typed: Konnichiwa! Erufutero desu! (What it means: Good day! I’m Elfteiroh!)
This uses the 3 scripts. Kanji + Hiragana for the greeting, Katakana for my username, and Hiragana for that last word.
