As Naoi noticed, there's something clearly off about Mona's home life that's causing her to be so desperate to bring Naoi back. Hopefully their mom's boyfriend isn't abusive to her in some other way if she was telling the truth about him not being physically violent. Their mom lied to Naoi when she made everything out to be perfect, since her and the boyfriend constantly arguing isn't going to be magically fixed by having a baby. If anything, it would only add more pressure.

I'm starting to suspect that their mom's motive, and to a lesser extent Mona's, is to recreate their former home dynamic with Naoi shouldering all of the abuse for them. Mona asking Kurumi to stay during her talk with Naoi could also be seen as manipulative, since she did it assuming Kurumi would side with her to convince Naoi to move in with her and their mom again. Hopefully they won't react badly if they find out about Naoi's plan to move out with Kurumi after high school.

Also, it seems Naoi's dad abandoned her without ever signing the divorce papers, since Naoi assumed that's why Mona came initially, to collect them. That could put even more pressure on her mom's relationship with the boyfriend, since they can't get married if she's still legally married to Naoi's dad.

As for Kurumi, this could be good for her and help her start to figure out how to face her own mother eventually.

And finally, Kokoro was in the color spread too, so she might get more focus this volume. Hopefully it'll be in a positive way and not something like her mistakenly thinking Naoi got Kurumi to ditch class this chapter to hang out.

Okay, or that.

Even if asking Kurumi to stay wasn't manipulative- wanting the supportive person with her is understandable- using Kurumi to outnumber and verbally pressure Naoi definitely is. That combined with the mom's terribad judgement makes avoiding the house an easy choice.

Mona has likely internalized some of her mistreatment, so she has some growth to do before she become self actualized and non-evil like the protagonists.

This manga really delivers and drama gets better and better.

First, let me just say that kids in this story are not to blaim at all. Adults are pricks, and that includes both Naoi's and Kurumi's parents. Mona can see that her life will be the living hell after baby is born (baby is least in the fault here, Mona knows that she will be ignored and discarded like Naoi was) so she wants her older sister to come back and hopefully balance things.

But, the way I see it - is the best solution would be for Kurumi, Naoi and Mona to love alone together (as others already pointed up). It is not impossible to happen since none of the parents actually care about their kids. Naoi's dad will just continue drinking as he was and her mom will have new baby and boyfriend to live with. Kurumi's mom is also uninterested in her daughter, so after finishing high school at least Naoi and Kurumi can start living independently together somewhere. And Mona could join them to have at least some resemblance of normal life, and being surrounded with people who actually care about her.

It really speaks volume when living together with toxic lesbian couple would be considered "normal" in this manga. But that is why it is so interesting and it actually delivers, changing everyone slowly for the better. Except the adults, they remain pricks.

Hey now, this isn't that kind of manga. /s

It really speaks volume when living together with toxic lesbian couple would be considered "normal" in this manga. But that is why it is so interesting and it actually delivers, changing everyone slowly for the better. Except the adults, they remain pricks.

They haven't even been toxic in a while. They just listen to each other and handle their problems in a mature way, or at least more mature than many real world adults.

"Adult" in this manga is basically shorthand for "someone who no longer has the capacity to change, for good or ill", so unsurprisingly they are always the bad option. A bad adult will never become a good one and we've never met a good adult.

Yeah their mom is not okay. Idk what it is yet but I know this manga, and that home situation is gonna be worse than just Mona missing her sister and feeling like her mom is trying to replace her or something. Or as the guy above me said, a bandaid baby. It will be much worse than a bandaid baby.
