See, I don't see this as him "accepting her" because of the way the scene has played out. He hasn't moved on and Fumi is being portrayed as trading her body for (false) acceptance. It's comfort, not love, that has generated the scene.
I think it would've been better if the foreplay was cut with scenes of the ML remembering moments from the time skip that he spent with her. Each kiss, each stroke, is in a way revealing to him that he has had love this entire time. By the time Fumi is laying down and ready to accept him into her, he has come to accept her into him. Something like that gets to the same point but changes the context of the scene.
Basically, foreplay -> date memory -> foreplay -> date memory -> Passionate, lovemaking.
