Yeah, he's the good old 勇者 (yuusha; 勇 = courage, bravery; 者 = person), so "brave" is a more literal translation, though "hero" is also pretty common (most notably when referring to the Dragon Quest MC).

For this specific story, things get even more complicated since, when he selected his job, he also had the choice of the jobs 英雄 (eiyuu - hero) and ヒーロー (transliteration of the English word hero) - I don't think we ever hear what those jobs were about. We'll soon-ish also see a character get another job with "hero" in the name that has nothing to do with those other ones.

My personal take is that, even if the info on the covers is not 100% consistent, it should still be used unless there's a strong reason to avoid it.
