And people hate Kusunoki for being vanilla, which seems to be a worse character trait for most of the commenters here. The shit Hebikawa is doing is like, the most mild ever villain shit. She's barely even an antagonist. You're obviously not meant to dislike her at this point. She's 'a bit questionable' at worst. She hasn't crossed any lines, at least not yet.
People mad at her would absolutely lose their fucking minds the second they encountered an actual nasty villain girl.
She isn't just vanilla, she's a massive Mary Sue. The most beautiful, the kindest without a hint of darkness, looks like she has no fat on her body but still has big boobs, no muscles but better athleticism than all the boys, can knock out a boy twice her size with a single dodge ball throw, was awful in Maths but after a single lesson got 100/100, even the tutor Keisuke only got 95, was socially awkward but turned out to be a great actress immediately, hasn't had friends in years but could fix Irie's problems by herself and then improvise the play to success and then everyone is her friend. And people hate Kusunoki for being vanilla, which seems to be a worse character trait for most of the commenters here.
You bring up some very good points, though I'd argue that the parallelism runs closer and that the comparison should be made at the appropriate character stages. It's easier to make "Yami, Hikari's friend" look good (but not really much better, I might add) when compared to "Hebikawa, not Kusunoki's friend". However, what if we checked Yami before she became Hikari's friend? Then we meet a gloomy, abrasive character who actively shuns every attempt to befriend her. Who suddenly dumped her boyfriend without explanation and ghosted him. Who tried to get a person she found annoying into a dangerous online date to teach her a lesson. That's all much worse than Hebikawa has done at the same equivalent stage.I'd disagree with that.
I think that Ayami is a better person than Hebikawa in just about every possible way.
Agreed. In my eyes, this is the litmus test, the Rubicon. Hebikawa can't (or shouldn't) win the Shizuki-Bowl until she acknowledges and makes amends for what she did to him. Yes, they were simple kids, and it was a clear case of "For Me, It Was Tuesday" for her, but it was a key trauma for him.Even now that she's aware of the fact that she's catching feelings for Shizuki, she still feels absolutely no remorse at all for what she did to him in middle school.
"I'm better than that" you chose to diagnose a person with a mental illness because they don't like your waifu in a manga. Since you decided to take my obvious joke seriously to the point that you decided to diagnose me with a mental illness. It's become very clear after all your comments that you are incapable of differentiating between reality and fiction. I don't want to bully a mentay handicapped person anymore, so I won't reply to you anymore, I'm better than that.
That is because the people who prefer her are just not commenting. It's not an us vs them to them because they know they are rooting for the winning girl. It's crazy how personally Hebi-haters are taking things. While people call Kusonoki boring i haven't seen anyone insulted for preferring her. Meanwhile SnakeStans are getting called edgelords, contrarians, and psycopaths not even for liking her but just for not disliking her.
Someone asked how can people root for her when she caused Shizuka trauma and i'm baffled as to why that's supposed to matter. First of all calling it trauma is silly, bro just became a bit apprehensive around girls. Now obviously in a scenario where Hebi does end up with Shizuka she should repent, grow and change yada yada, I don't think most fans expect her to stay as she is for most of the story. I don't think most of what she's done so far is some unforgivable crime that would justify a life long grudge.
I agree she is an interesting character, and adds a lot to talk about. I just personally don't like her. I like that she exists in the manga, but I don't like her as a character. These people playing defense for her just can not comprehend that. You are allowed to like what a character contributes to the narrative, and the overarching plot without liking the character. The fact that Snek is making the forum section active like the good old days of mangadex is proof enough that the mange would be nothing without her
Not my waifu, I am not a child who has waifus, she's just the most fun character in this manga. You weren't joking at all throughout the comment section, so don't pretend now."I'm better than that" you chose to diagnose a person with a mental illness because they don't like your waifu in a manga. Since you decided to take my obvious joke seriously to the point that you decided to diagnose me with a mental illness.
At what point was I insinuating that this is reality? I would really like to know what made you come to that conclusion. I wonder what displays a more sad life. Me expressing my opinion of a character, or you deciding to argue with me because I expressed my opinion.
I think you may be projecting onto me. I am not the one trying to play defense for a fictional character here. I am expressing my opinions on a character, and said an obvious joke to someone who shares my opinions on a character. You are the one who decided to resort to ad hominem. If you look at my comments to you I have not insulted you a single time. It shows a real inability to actually formulate a proper position worth defending when you resort to just name calling. It shows your position is weak, and you can't actually defend it without resorting to name calling.
Maybe debate isn't your thing, and that is fine. It is not for everyone.
Except all those villains, the author does want you to like Hebikawa since she gets all sad background.I agree she is an interesting character, and adds a lot to talk about. I just personally don't like her. I like that she exists in the manga, but I don't like her as a character. These people playing defense for her just can not comprehend that. You are allowed to like what a character contributes to the narrative, and the overarching plot without liking the character.
Where would JJK be without sukuna
Where would demon slayer be without Muzan
Where would Dandadan be without Sait Germain (or any of the big villains)
Are we meant to like those characters? No
Are we meant to like what they add to the story? Yes.
Without those characters existing their respective series would be boring.
Yes I typed the SDF IS NUKING YOU BAIL BAIL completely seriously. You got me man.Not my waifu, I am not a child who has waifus, she's just the most fun character in this manga. You weren't joking at all throughout the comment section, so don't pretend now.
Why being up serial killers repeatedly and then pretend you didn't bring up reality. You've been attacking Hebikawa fans throughout so I think you pretending that you're just sharing your opinion doesn't hold any water. You're so triggered by Hebikawa, did someone like her hurt you in school or something? Move on mate, she isn't real, she can't hurt you.
When she does something to actually redeem herself i will think better of her. So far she has not. I still probably won't like her because a sob story isn't enough for me to justify someone being a piece of shit to someone else without them being the direct cause of the sob story.Except all those villains, the author does want you to like Hebikawa since she gets all sad background.
Again you compare her with psychoths and murders.
What exactly do you think Hebikawa has done that is so evil to you? Even Keisuke moves on from her calling him a loser back in Middle School. You should too.
You were being sincere in how people defending a girl is similar to that, and now you use the joke excuse to justify yourself. Sure.Yes I typed the SDF IS NUKING YOU BAIL BAIL completely seriously. You got me man.
Most villain characters in manga have a sad back story. This is literally just a manga trope.
I literally brought up villains in manga. Are you unable to separate fictional characters from reality? You do realize serial killers exist in fiction too right?
Again you choose to diagnose some mental illness issue. This seems to be your signature move. Again maybe debate isn't your thing man. That is fine again it is not for everyone.
Ummmm I've got news for you. What has you confused is that you absolutely can like villainous characters, think they're cool, and not endorse or want to replicate their actions. Liking Frieza doesnt mean supporting racism and genocide. He may be Space Hitler but his victims are fictional. Learn to separate fiction from reality.Where would JJK be without sukuna
Are we meant to like those characters? No
