i feel like Gate of God is what Luffy and the wings, should be aiming for. Ryou gave Luffy better haki control, but it's the maximum amount of haki that's really necessary, as shown with Garp and Roger too.

Seriously this. I honestly like that Luffy's an emperor now, and he has Gear 5. But ever since the end of Wano, the Straw Hats had gotten far too complacent.

While they're an emperor's crew, they're also the most unstable or unbalanced crew, with only 2-3 solid pillars to keep them afloat. They lack the numbers and resources of other Emperor crews, and even if they have numerous allies, said allies are scattered throughout the world. So when they get overwhelmed which literally happens a lot, those allies don't get there in time unless they were already on their way by happenchance.

It'd be one thing if it was a matter of quality over quantity, but barely half of the Straw Hats are actually fit for the New World (this is especially the case since only half of the Straw Hats actually have and/or use Haki). Now it's not like I expect for every Straw Hat member to be admiral level (at bare minimum), but at the very least be more aware of their situation and circumstances.

This is especially the case since we saw both the Heart Pirates and Kid Pirates get wiped out, and the only reason why the Straw Hats didn't was because they had help bail them out. I'm still thinking back to the chapter where Sanji expressed surprise over how weak the God Knights were and Franky literally attributed it to them being Emperors, as if the title itself actually changed their level of strength.

It'd been one thing entirely if the Straw Hats never faced any major obstacles, but they all went through tough trials and tribulations, some of which they only managed to overcome because their enemies had literally looked down on them and took them lightly. Which is nearly the same attitude that they have currently.

Long story short: I'm not asking for some major power up for the crew... I'm asking for them to adopt a better attitude, one that doesn't just beg to be proven wrong, like Luffy saying he's the strongest he's ever been only to be beaten by IMU. Even if Luffy was at his peak, he should've saw the struggle that Loki was having with IMU, and knew that this was no ordinary opponent.

Anway, that's all for my rant. I personally loved this chapter, and Gaban seriously gave Luffy the trash talk that he needed. Also, as another minor plus, is that Gaban once again proved Kaidou's words right that Haki rules the seas, not Devil Fruit powers. And honestly the fact that a Haki attack from Gaban (who is not only old, but injured) had pushed Imu as much as it did, is incredibly praiseworthy.

I don't think they're too complacent if you consider the timeline. Luffy was literally a rookie more or less 3 years ago. From rookie to one of the 4 Emperors is meteoric. I'd wager their pirate crew is vastly stronger than the majority. The problem is they aren't up against the majority but the literal peaks of power. Luffy is the closest to becoming King of the Pirates, I'd get cocky too if we didn't have the birds eye view of the story as readers. As far as Luffy was concerned the strongest thing he needed to fight were the Emperors, Admirals and maybe the Knights of God (probably didn't even know the existed until the recent chapters)

I'm not saying they hadn't made any grand achievements in the short amount of time. I'm saying that regardless of the duration, they're too complacent. It isn't a problem that they're up against the literal peaks of power, as that's literally the expected chain of events. By Luffy's own words, he had intended to defeat all of the Four Emperors in the first place, so there's no reason to not prepare to fight against them or those of possibly greater strength (WG + Imu). Even if they disregard Imu (after all, not knowing his existence), there was still Akainu as a potential adversary.

Not to mention, his victory against Kaidou came with great help, as not only was Luffy defeated three times before (the third time being due to outside interference, but Luffy was already at the end of his rope in that moment), But Kaidou had fought against a number of opponents beside Luffy for nearly the whole night.

Heck, Luffy himself experienced something like that when he battled Big Mom's army and was eventually overwhelmed and defeated. And that's my main point; their explosive rise in status was not without cost or hardship, so for them to become complacent like this is tiring, and that's why I'm glad Gaban said what he said to Luffy. If anything Gaban's words were proof that Luffy's attitude needed some adjustment.
