Honestly, if one were ever in this situation, this is exactly the correct way to handle the admission. Like, sure, it sounds outlandish and impossible as hell from their perspective, but he's been incidentally setting them up for this reveal for a long time with all of the weird shit he brings them. If they're not going to believe him, they're going to have to find some other rationale for all the comestibles he has that Ricky, at least, already correctly identified as not being findable anywhere in their world.
Akira eventually outright brings Skrell with him to his(/"our") world, so even if she doesn't believe him here, she will later.
