Poor Miyo didn't even get the time to process they're a couple before being informed their child dies, damn :/ in that case, I wonder if the kids that were calling Zenki "dad" are biologically theirs or adopted children.

Yeah, I was just gonna say that. It's very sad, but very realistic too. Child mortality has historically been terribly common in every society, it's only comparatively recently that the vast majority of kids get to see their fifth birthdays. And that's not even mentioning how dangerous childbirth was for the mother, too!

Ozuno made short work of his kid... which isn't really surprising. I don't doubt Hiroi is very talented, but Ozuno is just as talented and has been honing his skill against some pretty big threats... threats he barely survived against, but survived nonetheless, and that is a lot.

Hiroi... makes the same expressions as his mother... and has the same bad habits... good for you, Tarume, your little boy is a healthy wippersnapper, a little too high-strung... but that certainly confirms he is yours :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: .

Ah... fffffffffffuck... that is not a good memory to have so young.

I had a thought about how lucky Goki and Zenki are to have two little treasures, partly because in the back of my mind I know how dangerous pregnancy was at that time... maybe that is why I wasn't surprised by the reveal... but it still hurts all the same.

Now imagine what Miyo must be feeling.

At least things were ironed out with Sarara, and it is funny how proud Hiroi and Oushi are about Sarara outmaneuvering them.

Might have been their 2nd and 3rd. At least the one that was dangling on Zenki looks a lot like him.

Zenki and Goki in "real" history are credited with being the progenitors of the Gokigen (go = five, ki = oni, gen = relative/descendant) clans of Shugendo (the historical En-no-Ozuno's school of Shinto-Buddhist mountain ascetism) who would go on to serve as the protectors for the most important Shugendo sites. The gokigen families have alternately served as priests, monks, warriors, and warlords, depending on the needs of the era, to serve this purpose. The gokigen are named that because they are legendarily said to be descended from the five biological children of the couple. So no worries. They'll have at least five surviving kids.

BTW, there has always been this dark thread hanging over Miyo that hasn't been explored to date. Goki is undoubtedly remembered as an oni. This means Miyo is destined to become one at some point we haven't met in this story, then something will have to happen to break the oni curse and return her and Zenki's humanity. Since the oni predate the descent of the gods and a human turns to one through cannibalism, this might hint at Miyo doing something that would equal or surpass the sin of cannibalism and (or then) causing the disappearance of the gods from the human realm.

Yessssss, the kid is Tarume and Ozuno’s son. Finally some good news.
Now I need to see Tarume’s adorable face explode from embarrassment when she knows.

OH, I just realized that the timelines look super weird. Emperor Tenmu (Azuma-no-Miya) passed away in 686, the 13th year of his reign. Empress Jito (Sarara) reigned for the next 11 years, until 697, then abdicated and spent the next 6 years until her death cloistered. Since the gang left just before the start of the Jinshin War in 672, the current year must be 702. Therefore, not only has Tenmu been dead for 16 years, Jito should already be out of power for 5. I get that this is the altered timeline, but the story is kinda crazy because the implication is that in this timeline Empress Jito hid her husband's death for 16 whole years and never abdicated.

BTW, she's only 57 here (Tenmu was only 56 when he died). Boy did they both age badly...😅

Well, I guess we've gotten it all but confirmed the kid is En and Tarume's? Cute, tho a bit of a shame he won't get together with the dragon Lady...unless this is a parallel timeline?

But oof, sad times all around here...poor Sarara is broken from Azuma's death, and it turns out Miyo lost her firstborn in the future (tho according to their IRL counterparts abd the boy clinging onto Zen, they have and will get a lot more kids)
Still, I guess that's one reasin she and tge rest won't remember anything of the past?
A shame to think that basically all their journey and the memories and bonds they've made together will be erased...

Well, once again the time travel shenanigans strike lol

And huh...well, I guess people lived harsher lives in this time, which applies even for royalty with magic assistance?
...At least she's still holding herself with grace?

I did notice her mask had horns, which made me wonder for a while if that was indication to her becoming an oni at some point. Would be interesting to see what sort of situation would even lead to that, but I morbidly wanna see how Zen would react to the possibility of his gf becoming an oni like him.

It might be the weaponization of Oni, using those masks to temporarily alter ones mantra. It would be an extension of the ukei, one that trends dangerously towards war application and could be a heretical enough art to banish gods entirely.
