So uhhh

Anyone getting a deja vu from the "failing grade" quote from the stalker?

It doesn't sound like a cheap joke at the expense of the protag that's for sure.

As a highschooler, No, i wouldnt be happy to know that some random person is sending threats or saying that we would be in the same coffin together. if this happened to me im calling a trusted adult. Oh wait i just realised that this means there are 2 people targeting his heart, one of them might be literal if he rejects her tho...

The current me would lure this stalker out. They want me to get rattled, but I would just open the text, read it, then close it. If it's not a prank, they would pursue further and use a more drastic measure. It could get dangerous, yes. But I can still handle it as I go.

Though I'm not sure how my teenage self would respond to this. I'm sure that I won't get giddy, but I probably would just not know how to respond, and choose to ignore it regardless. 🤣

I think this story would be more tense if the guy had something to lose. Like if he was already in a relationship or has legitimate concerns it'll end up like obsession with a dead pet as foreshadowing. But like, this doesn't seem that bad at all. Also it is a little weird to not threaten his friend's sister or at least not mention her cuz she is publically making bento for him. I dunno. This just seems flirty and coy rather than stalkery.

right.

Any "stakes" to this are entirely in his head, predicated on his desire to be some background mob who doesn't stand out in any way and can simply live that "romcom manga protagonist peaceful boring life" that they all seem to want (while simultaneously getting upset at others for being normal & popular, for some reason). This is just him literally making a mountain out of a molehill. The only thing that's potentially scary is the "we'll share graves" bit, and even that, depending on the original Japanese, is basically "we'll be together forever" in that "'til death do us part" wedding vow business. The ominous and frightening atmosphere is 100% because of his interpretation of the messages, which are presented through the visuals depicted in the background behind him when he's reacting to the content of what's sent to him, but on their own, I don't really interpret them as anything outright hostile or malignant.

The nice thing, is we have the Stalker now messaging with proof that they can actively see him in places like the classroom. So there's narrative velocity in that, as the behavior being exhibited is escalating, albeit in a somewhat tame manner (again, pointing to this not feeling as nefarious, outside his specific POV/interpretation). But hopefully it continues to ramp up and more starts happening to push the tension, because we're still pretty mild on that front. I expect lulls in the plot where things depressurize (as any good horror fan would affirm), and I don't think it needs to go straight to 100 before chapter 5.
But there's a balance to how slow the build-up can be, and if this should be taken seriously, then he either needs to get an outside perspective to counter/augment his own view of the situation, or something needs to actually happen that solidifies if this is a 'oh fuck' scenario or what.

Also, it's just a Me Thing but I wish he wouldn't complain about being pushed into abandoning his 'quiet background mob life' by Hinata and his ilk, only to roll over because "you make it hard to refuse you" when a simple 'no' would literally not even be rude (maybe it would be, it's Japan, but). Maybe that's part of it though, and as he descends into madness over the weirdness of this Stalker situation, his behavior and demeanor shifts and it clues in those around him to something actually being wrong (like if he starts actively avoiding Hinata and turning down the others and stuff).
If the author plays it that way, then I'm all in on that depiction of his character.

I don't think so, but mostly because he doesn't need to stalk him. He likely is gay and also a yandere, but he has other ways to catch his attention.
Being gay in Japan is still taboo so what if he just did this for privacy reasons while his sister is actually making a effort without being a weirdo

No prediction out of me, I'm gonna wait and see what happens.

That picture of Supes and Darkseid always makes me laugh because you don't tug on Superman's cape.

Let me guess:

1. The sister is obviously the yandere, title says so
2. The kouhai is the stalker, unlike the other girls she is not showing to have much affection to his friend
3. His friend is either gay for him or just want to protect those girls from his sister, so he keeps the status quo and still invite MC every time.

I'm guessing her plan is to manipulate the poor fucker through the suspension bridge effect to fall for her. She's breaking him down through the psychological stress of being stalked and when he's at his lowest she'll "save him" and own him utterly.

I love how you guys think that you would be into this if it happened to you in real life.
What you guys forget though is that your stalker most probably wouldn’t be a cute anime girl…
There are plenty of attractive but morally bankrupt manipulators and stalkers in the world that actually target otherwise unremarkable dudes. It's a roll of the dice whether you get a pretty lunatic or a homely one, but in the end they're both ultimately terrible, manipulative, psychopathic people and only good in 2D.

Perhaps the older brother is a victim forced by his sister to sway any potential competition away from the protagonist, for years.
