I think the phrase ‘private gardener’ makes her think they have a full time gardener instead of some guy who hires himself out for that kind of work. Mine is a municipal worker who does it as a side job.

Personal gardener was the term used, but yeah, those are not cheap, and it also implies you have enough work for them to be only working for your family.
