Hotpot! For diaspora Chinese like me, hotpot is an indispensable component of the Chinese New Year. It's when the whole family gets together at a large table and eats of the same pot. In that sense, the hotpot is actually quite similar to an American Christmas turkey dinner.
Fun fact about the hotpot: In Southeast Asia, many people refer to hotpot as 'steamboat'. The reason for this, or at least the one that's popularly accepted, is that early hotpot pots had this 'smokestack' in the middle that's reminiscent of a steamboat's chimney.
