So, yes, Nanase is a terrible person. We'll just posit that her "terribleness" is common and boring, while the "terribleness" of the others is unique and entertaining.
A lot of Nanase's "terribleness" stems from Yuni. While both are bad at communication, it falls on Yuni (the one with issues on her behavior) to tell her that. Yuni needs attention while Nanase doesn't. They aren't compatible and Yuni should've/could've ended it long ago esp after Fuuko.

Ultimately imo Nanase's dumb sport-tracked mind could work with someone less needy and able to keep her in check with confrontation, but Yuni's avoidant and cheating mindset wont bring her anything good.

Nanase is also bad at communication, though. We see time and again that she just makes decisions and expects Yuni to simply go along with them and be fine with it—there's the sports meetup in another city where she leaves Yuni to figure out transportation and lodging and simply assumes she'll go out of her way entirely to come watch her play. There's the invitation to go camping, and then makes no mention of the fact the rest of the team will be there until Yuni's already there, with the added layer of embarrassment of Yuni having never done any of it before and thinking this would be a "two of them reconnecting" trip. There's the tennis event in this very chapter, which Nanase even says "we talked about this before" and it flashes back to Yuni telling her she has no interest in tennis whatsoever.

Yuni isn't perfect. But Nanase isn't the one who's blameless and "normal" and her faults don't only appear because of Yuni being the one she's in a relationship. And if it requires someone "less needy" to make dating work for her, then Nanase's gonna end up entirely alone because Yuki isn't any better, and never has been as we watch her jealousy and actions to separate Nanase from Yuni (while they are actively dating, mind, which is simply another form of infidelity).

Nanase even said she'd do everything possible to "win back" Yuni from Fuuko after the cheating was initially revealed and everyone confronted everyone else, and she proceeded to fall right back into the same patterns as before. Sure, she complimented Yuni more and made time for her at the camping trip (after letting Yuki pull her away and leaving Yuni with the adults all afternoon), but remember: one of Yuni's big asks was to be able to tell people they were dating, and Nanase has still disallowed that.
Nanase doesn't need someone "less needy", she needs to assess if she really wants a relationship, and whether she can be less self-interested and selfish about what she wants from said relationship, because while Yuni is the one who cheated with Fuuko, it absolutely didn't happen in a vacuum, and even when Yuni pushed Fuuko away, Nanase's behavior with Yuki mirrors everything that lead to the cheating event and all of it is directly related to Nanase's actions.

The more I read this manga it seems nanase is just a average person while everybody else is just terrible
When I read this it seems atleast trying to be with be yuni more. It seems yuni more of the problem the nanase

This sorta reads to me like a rather surface-level understanding of the whole story.

Yuni's not perfect, and we're not meant to think she is. But Nanase isn't some blameless victim who's only had things happen to her. She continues to neglect Yuni, because she's still not seeing Yuni, and apparently thinks that as long as she spends time with Yuni then everything's fine, missing that one of Yuni's core wants this entire time was to not have to hid their relationship. She still makes decisions and assumes Yuni will follow along, and lets herself be dragged around by Yuki and lets her actively interfere in her relationship.
They're incompatible, and Yuni's absolutely part of the problem and has her own stuff going on, but it's been clear for the last couple volumes that Nanase's role in all of this is very far from passive or even reactive.

Nanase defenders need to reread the manga lol, is she the least shitty character? Honestly? Yeah, I don't think anyone will  really argue against that, but that doesn't change the fact that Nanase is a negligent, selfish, insensitive girlfriend who again and again makes the worst decisions and never listen to Yuni even after she said she would become better

Does she deserve to be cheated on? No, but she's not the poor little victim cause she literally never gave what Yuni wanted/ needed even after she said she was gonna change, fact that she never changed proves that even if Yuni communicates Nanase will still be a negligent girlfriend

The reality is that if it was someone else instead of Yuni she would still have been a terrible girlfriend and would probably have been dumped long ago, only reason Yuni didn't dump her is because she's a mess

I might just have forgotten but I don't think the story told us why Nanase got together with Yuni to begin with when she pretty much only cares about the club, kinda curious cause what we get so far is that Nanase just likes the idea of having a girlfriend rather than actually really having one with how she's so negligent and only think of the club

It's kinda funny how this chapter and next will possible show Nanase is even more negligent, selfish and insensitive than we expected depending on what we get from Yuki from here

tbf, Nanase asked Yuni if they should reveal their relationship (after she spilled the tea to Yuki) and then Yuni recanted and got cold feet at the prospect of laying everything to family and friends (cf chapter 14)

It makes sense, though, given where that happens in the timeline of things, and the whole of the chapter that transpires before it.

Up to chapter 14 (and beyond, but since this is the point in question), Nanase has a pattern of self-interest that doesn't take Yuni's wants and needs into account. They're all small, individual incidents, but they build up to a picture of Nanase being truly neglectful and inconsiderate, and yet Yuni "goes along with" what Nanase wants because she wants the relationship to work. And one of the big ones that Nanase had stated was keeping their relationship a secret.
Then Yuni finds out that Nanase told someone, and instead of giving an actual reason as to why she did when it was her desire to keep everything hidden, she turns it around with "well do you want to just tell everyone, then?" That's not validating Yuni's concern—to whit, why it was so important to Nanase that Yuni keep it all under wraps at school, but it was no big deal to tell "bestie Yuki" when it was on Nanase's terms? Nanase just throws out a solution that she thinks will make Yuni happy, and makes no effort to understand why Yuni's upset in the first place.

And yes—by that point, Yuni was falling deeper and deeper in with Fuuko, and being shown the exact attention and focus she lacked with Nanase that pushed her toward cheating in the first place. Plus, my read on her sudden fear of everyone finding out, is because she'd just been accused of cheating by Yuki—and that more people knowing about their relationship now, meant more people might find out about her and Fuuko, too.
There's self-preservation and self-interest on Yuni's part in that moment, but it does still involve Nanase only saying "let's tell poeple" because she's not understanding (nor taking the time to understand) why Yuni was upset about Yuki knowing.

Are average persons supposed to ignore their significant other's needs and just do whatever they like and assume the other will follow? I know it's realistic, because of lot of people are selfish like that, but it doesn't mean it's normal or should be emulated.

So, yes, Nanase is a terrible person. We'll just posit that her "terribleness" is common and boring, while the "terribleness" of the others is unique and entertaining.
Ignore needs??? No nanase is not terrible lol. Yuni just doesn't communicate her needs to nanase at all. Which is evident from the beginning when she doesn't tell nanase wat she wants she vents to social media. Yuni is the problem not nanase...

Right soooooo. That tells us that no naanse is not the main problem. Its yuni lol. Of course isn't nanase isn't perfect but she isn't as bad as fuuko or yuni. The problem with nanase is that she is the only non toxic person in this manga. And no just being a bad girlfriend doesn't make you toxic

Being consistently bad, especially after having what's wrong point out to you, more so multiple times then, is how that becomes toxic.
I also figured Yuni was just not communicating enough at first until the Festival "date" happened and the pattern with Yuki became rather obvious for anyone paying attention to what Nanase's doing and/or prioritizing.

As said, no one's arguing that Nanase's the 'least' problematic person here, just that she's far from being innocent in this whole mess. Everything wrong with her is pretty exclusively her own issues of negligence and narcissism, outside of Yuki sabotaging her.
Still feel like the worse part of this was Nanase "winning" Yuni back and proceeded to treat her like a freaking trophy piece, which is also the same scenario that introduced us to Mashiro for the first time with all that happened during the end of that little arc.
Like by no means is anyone seriously condoning the cheating from these girls, the reason a lot of this drama is entertaining and fun to read and speculate on is because if things were just a little different, the whole mess would be different and more fair.
If Fuuko was more sly and started off as Yuni's friend and waited for the two to break up, there wouldn't be any 'cheating' and who knows how things would've gone precisely because we now know just how bad all 4 of our main girls are now.

I feel there's three possible points people who defend Nanase miss:

1 - I feel one reason some "defend" Yuni is because in the beginning the Yuni hate felt really overblown at times, like, I honestly don't think anyone will argue against the cheating being bad but some people talked about her as if she was some unrepentant sociopathic monster who was cheating for the lulz cause she's eeeeeevil instead of literally being a dumb teenager who also has quite a few problems

Sometimes it also felt like some people put Nanase on a pedestal as the poor little victim who could do no wrong, arguably the same for Yuki which is why some wanted them to get together, they were the good guys while Yuni was the eeeeevil cheater who deserved to suffer

I say "defend" cause in my opinion a lot of the time it's less actually defending Yuni and simply arguing against the exagerated caricature some created of her, which funnily enough became easier and easier as the story progress and we see Nanase isn't really all that

2 - I think one thing some miss is that yes, Yuni, Fuuko and Yuki sucks but that just because Nanase sucks less that doesn't mean she doesn't suck, this is not a competition really, Nanase just sucks in a more mudane and arguably more infuriating way, hear me out:

- Yuni: we see again and again that mentally and emotionally she's not exactly the most stable and has her own issues, honestly she arguably shouldn't be in a relationship to begin with lol, but at the same time we see that many times she openly admits to herself what she is doing is bad and should stop, of course she doesn't and emotionally is all over the place so she still sucks but she still cknowledges that she is bad

- Fuuko: she's the most honest of all, she never denied she's bad, if anything she openly embraces really, of course that doesn't change the fact that she sucks just because she's honest about what she does

- Yuki: she is arguably in my opinion the most malicious of them cause she acts like she's good but did some pretty bad stuff without any remorse, I honestly doubt she feels an ounce of guilt for the pain she caused Nanase but hey, she got Nanase on her side so everything was ok in her head

- and then comes Nanase, she is arguably the only "good" person, nothing she does is really malicious, like, we saw little by little she was a shitty girlfriend, kinda neglicent, insensitive and so on but we couldn't really give her much shit cause she's literally just a dumb teenager making dumb decisions, it could be frustrating but it was understandable

At least until she finds out the cheating that is, she chose to continue with Yuni and promised to get better but what we get? She repeating the same mistakes even after communicating with Yuni, she never really listen or relate to Yuni and continues to be negligent, insensitve, self centered, she makes her assumptions like about Yuni mother or her maybe now being interested in tennis and rolls with it, or leaves Yuni alone even after she said she didn't want to be left alone, there's various examples really

We were able to excuse Nanase behavior cause before it was just a clueless dumb teenager doing innocent mistakes but after she promised to get better and clearly didn't change at all it goes from frustrating to infuriating that she's making the same mistakes all over again

Nanase is basically the classic "no thoughts, head empty" meme unless it's about the club, even when Nanase and Yuni communicate she still doesn't listen and doesn't change at all, I suspect that for some people the exact fact that she's not malicious about that just makes it worse, especially for people who had to deal with someone who just doesn't listen and never learn or change

I feel this chapter really settles how Nanase is those things cause Yuki world just collapsed from finding out Nanase never really saw her as her bestie lol, depending on what next chapter shows it's pretty much the last nail that yes Nanase is negligent, insensitive, self centered and so on and can't think of anything but her little world that is entirely focused on the club

3 - last but not least, cheating aside I feel Yuni, Fuuko and Nanase can feel a little too dramatic compared to Nanase, Yuni is a mess, Fuuko is too openly evil wanting to steal Yuni, Yuki is two faced bitch and her attitude can be hard to take seriously, Nanase meanwhile is just too mundane

Still wanting to be with Yuni aside since that can feel unrealistic then Nanase attitude as a whole is too normal, too mundane, banal, she's not a bitch, she's not malicious, she's not evil or anything like that, she's just an airhead too focused on the club that she completely miss everything else, she can be called selfish and insensitive but that's pretty on brand for a teenager really

Until she decided to still be with Yuni after knowing about the cheating, that completely change context of things cause after promising to change she just don't change at all, I can't help but feel that for some people it hits too close home, Yuni, Fuuko and Yuki can feel too unrealistic while Nanase we can pretty easily find many people like her

Honestly? I feel that if Nanase was as bad as everyone else nobody would bat an eye at it but it's exactly the lack of malice and the mundanity / banality of how she sucks that ironically can make her feel like worse than she is, the way she sucks is just too relatable, the more you had to deal with people like her the worse you'll feel about her as a whole

We can argue all we want about how Yuni, Fuuko and Yuki sucks and who's the worst or how Nanase sucks the least but the fact that her brand of suckness is so mundane can feel too personal while the others feel too much like typical dramatic romance, her mundanity ironically stands out like a sore thumb exactly because you can easily meet people like her, worst, might have or had a relationship with someone like her who never listen or changes and they're just, ugh, the worst

Anyway, at least that's my take on why some people "defend" Yuni or at least bashes Nanase, no amount of "b-but the others are worse" will change that Nanase still plain sucks

Fuuko just wants to chosen.

Her family always thought nothing of her, the neighbor girl she had a crush on just sidestepped her because, well, she's heterosexual, Mashiro, whom she thought she was important to, turned out to only want someone to torture. Fuuko has always been lonely and unloved.

Then she met Yuni, who was venting about loneliness and frustration, and she took her chance. I think at this point, Fuuko genuinely likes Yuni and wants to protect her. Which is why she's now distancing herself from Yuni, so that Mashiro leaves her alone. Meanwhile Yuni is seriously wavering. She doesn't want to admit it, but she cares a lot about Fuuko and is slowly falling for her, and Nanase's behavior is still pissing her off, even after she said she'd change.

Maybe we're headed toward a confrontation between Yuni/Mashiro and between Yuki/Nanase and I'm here to see the blood on the walls :02:

Agree with everything, except I think Fuuko's already fallen in love with Yuni completely.

Oh please. From the comments I've read in here from the past other chapters are people r making excuses for cheating. The author whole point is try to make everyone a villain in this manga but the problem is nanase isn't anywhere near a villain as the other characters. Being a bad girlfriend doesn't mean she is a villain. The only time yuni ever was actually honest with nanase is when she was getting groped by fuuko. Like the author intended yuni to be the most annoying character out of the bunch so for me most of this mess stems from yuni. Cuz the author yuni to be that way

Also the time she ask if she wants to go public with their relationship yuni backs out. Which tells me who the real problem is. But hey thats my opinion

Stop a second and think about the root cause.

Why was Fuuko drawn to Yuni? Because Yuni was venting on twitter about being a lonely lesbian, even though she had a girlfriend.

Why was Yuni venting? Because Nanase was neglecting her in favor of volleyball and her childhood friend and didn't want to publicize their relationship.

So, the origin of this mess lies with Nanase. It's all her fault :02:

And what she has done after "winning back" Yuni is "too little, too late."

Anyway, this whole story is built around cheating and characters making terrible decisions for selfish reasons.

If not, that would be another story entirely, maybe not nearly as entertaining as this one.

I mean the fact that u think its all nanase fault, tells me im probably not convince you or anybody else here even if I make my case. So we can just disagree and leave it at that
