I hope other readers will also factor in the characters' age part. Middle School 3rd year is basically 13 to 15, when puberty starts hitting people. Some are hit harder than others and turning said people into horny dumb mode. As a dude, I can admit I was introduced to internet porn and WoW around that age so opposite sex relationships was pretty much non-existent then. But I have seen a few athletic students like Kouma during high school.

Puberty brain is really weird and it doesn't help most people's brain don't fully develop until mid-late 20s. Some of the cruelest things I've experienced and seen during this time from a lack of empathy (and sympathy) with kids were simply viewed as "normal" and "growing up".

Kouma is like a 14 year guy running off of puberty testosterone and thinking he is an invincible MC until truck kun (or a bigger, stronger dude) finds him and roughs him up and/or down. Dealing with people having "Main Character Syndrome" is pretty fu**ing annoying, and there is really no fixing them if they've enabled throughout their childhood. Those types of narcissts are also the worst at accepting the fact other people can move on without them and remain as a petulant child into ... "adulthood".
