This chapter kinda feels like a continuation of the East-West udon clash from Vol 29 Ch 265. It's nice to see more of these Kanto vs Kansai food differences, they're always fun.

This one feels rare among Oishinbo chapters in that the lesson isn't "learn to appreciate the other region's food, it's good in its own way too!" but instead "yeah! it does suck when people don't make stuff the way you like it! you ain't gotta put up with that!!" lol

Indeed, that’s why it’s so odd to see the two become a couple when we literally just read about how their tastes in food are extremely incompatible

Oishinbo's lessons tend to be inconsistent. They seem to reflect whatever Kariya happens to be feeling or reading at the time, so I wouldn't put too much stock into it.
The greatest value of Oishinbo to me is the showcase of food. It's a great look into what people of the time understand, and a snapshot of the societal and political landscape they were experiencing.

This chapter shows us the lighthearted rivalry between Kanto and Kansai. A rivalry that still exists in modern Japan.
