Yeah everyone kept saying that the spin-off is better than the original or w/e when:I find that I like this spinoff a lot because I have the main manga to compare it to, so there's the excitement of "how will Hiroja spin [canon thing] into the Mafia AU?" than I have the excitement of what new thing comes up next.
So my hot take is that this spinoff isn't any better than the main manga, it's only as good as it is, because it's building off what the main manga establishes, like the personalities of the characters, or the factions and such.
Maybe people are enjoying this a lot because the payoff climax of each arc/storyline is more regular, because of the pace as you've said.Yeah everyone kept saying that the spin-off is better than the original or w/e when:
Saying that this series is "better" than the main series is a massive disservice to Nishi-sensei's work.
- That's just not true at all when it's building off of the blocks from the original manga.
- They only say that because the spin-off, by nature, needs to be much more fast-paced compared to the original manga, especially since the former is a monthly release while the latter is a weekly. Original Iruma-kun manga has a much slower pace and takes its time since its a school life manga, so it can afford the privilege of having the character moments be slowly realized.
We can see this clearly by how every single time Osamu Nishi-sensei wrote great character moments in the main series, the mangadex comment section explodes.

Yeah I get why people would feel compelled to currently say that they enjoy the spin-off more because of these things, it's just that I'm real tired of people not being able to tell that their current enjoyment is built off of the foundation that the original manga set.Maybe people are enjoying this a lot because the payoff climax of each arc/storyline is more regular, because of the pace as you've said.
It has the luxury of skipping a lot of "slow" parts because people don't need to spend as much time being endeared to characters most readers already know from the main manga. I don't think people would be easily as endeared to say, Opera or Alice for example if they didn't already know the outcome of their personalities.
I think the reason they can do that is because the original has taken the time to develop the characters' personalities so well in the first place, so the AU can "skip to the good stuff".I find myself enjoying this AU more and more than the original, and I feel like it mostly comes down to the mangaka being bolder and more aggressive with the cast, pushing certain character traits to the front and making the cast shine more.
