Genuine question, why other countries have more complicated way for flight than the empire?
Because they're older. Their history traces back to king arthur, so it's probably based on mechanized horses. It's not like there aren't advantages to having a big device handle the workload and be used as a shield, especially for long distance travel.

No no no I just Tanya to show up and shoot these people already lol. But in all seriousness, what was the point of crossing the border especially with the aerial novice mages? Both sides kinda had the same idea I get that but isn’t the point to be like “I’m not touching you?”
Conduct exercises directly on but not over the border in order to force the other side to keep their military operations somewhat close. That’s why the movement of the ships would react to one another and having aerial mages on board for a faster change in direction adds tension to the situation. Novices can do this while learning to fly in formation and practice. BUT crossing the border with them? WHY?! They should have been like two and a half times out of standard detection range to do something like that because it means the other side did not fall for the provocation, but the chapter makes it sound like they left standard detection range and IMMEDIATELY thought “Now’s a good time to take these novices and hop right over.”
Since this led to a “deus ex-ish” kind of power up that was the result of HER OWN LEADER frying their unit it all seems like BS.

LETS GO NEW CHAPTER

Also I'm enjoying the additional manga-exclusive characters. Makes sense that there would be additional ace of ace mages like the Sword of Light and the just-introduced Troubadour.

Hope at least one of them shows up in the anime as well
It's likely from the light novel but the anime cut it out.

I also read the light novel all the way till Tanya become Lieutenant Colonel, and I never notice about this Troubador Ace or that Woman Ace (forgot her name) with Rommel. heck, even during Planning session for Ostfjord attack I don't notice the existence of Imperial Navy folks. this manga is an exception where manga is more fleshed out than the novel.

well... the main idea is to make Empire eyes fixated upon them so that the special force to USSR could be send stealthily. and this Drake decide to tune distraction to 11 by actually crossing the border to make it doubly sure that Empire eyes is fixated upon them. using rookie training as a diplomatic reasoning of why Kingdom mage is in Imperial airspace should Empire envoy complaining. kinda more sensible than having a veteran getting lost. too bad Empire response is way more drastic than anticipated (straight up open fire without warning, as things should normally be done).

Mmm, and here we go with Mary Sue.. I only know her from the movie, but I remember that she seemed like a really really boring character that only exists to be a foil for Tanya. I hope she is more interesting as a character in the manga :nyoron:
I doubt Mary Sue will be more interesting than this, search about Mary Sue in terms of character archetype - very boring almighty.:worry:
