this is certainly one of the threads of all time. Guess I shouldn't have stopped saving the stuff I read in my bookmarks, now I gotta wait for that library exporting tool to come around bc I'm way too lazy to go through with it manually (and my list is fucking gigantic)
Future is looking bleak, but hopefully we'll pull through. See ya on the next one folks, fuck the brainless greedy corpos, fuck the publishers, fuck the Koreans in particular and their shitty slop and fuck this gay ass world for constantly trying to take away everything that I love and treasure.

It's funny how mangadex touted itself as protecting scanlation groups when it can't even protect itself lol
Ain't protecting us no more, I have to tick a box saying I have the right to upload the content now. Looks like responsibility is being pushed onto scanlators entirely. I doubt Young Jump are about to give me permission to translate the last few chapters of Yuuutsu, even if its for free.

Several of the series that was not fully purged earlier with 1-2 chapters remaining was fully purged today. either by MD or scanslator themselves. Expect the rest to follows.

I think I said before, if the purge didn't kill mangadex then that little box will.

Like, many groups will leave mangadex due to not being safe, which means even more people will leave, the little box just ensure that even  more groups will leave.

The little box is arguably offensive to any groups who uploads here, like, having the right to upload here? Is that a joke? What publisher would ever give that right? Entire point is that we're pirating it lol

Look at the bright side guys. With less content on the site, less traffic which means less server costs. Win for everybo- oh wait, only win is for mangadex itself. /s

The feature to export our reading lists should be implemented asap before it's too late.

I suggest scanlators to use sites like mangaupdates, if they aren't already, to help us get notified when there's a new chapter released.

It's certainly arguable depending on the state of 'official' translations (read: quality/if they exist), even regardless of that it might be argued that the scanlator has proof of work on their translations; this is especially relevant if they were released for free or they were released before the official translations were started.
They can also argue duplication of artwork, unauthorized use of logos/trademarks/trademarked characters...

They'll come up with something, and they have more money to back it up.

I think the bigger worry isn't whether what was taken down is lost forever (plenty of people have pointed out most if not every series on the list is on some aggregator site) but what most of the groups who got their shit taken down will do.
I see 5 options:
  • Flat out quit and disband
  • Continue uploading to MD like nothing ever happened until they get banned or the site gets taken down altogether.
  • find the most obscure site imaginable and hope their audience (as well as scrappers) find them.
  • temporary imgur/cubari galleries like when MD went offline a few years ago
  • Create their own website/discord that involves jumping through several hoops to view
I'm actually worried most are gonna be the first option tbh.

Oh wow, it really is over huh
There's 2 kinds of piracy sites, ones that have more or less useless legal statements everywhere and ones that don't.
Both are fine, but when a site switches from one to the other then it's clear they lost all confidence in their current model

That kind of box is fine, it lets the site more easily say "we didn't know it was copyrighted, user said it wasn't".
But adding that this late into the game is a sign that things are likely starting to fall apart
