Strangely this manga is kino when focused on Kou. I think it’s because their journey of acceptance of it is slower and more natural but everyone else just kind of gets used to it immediately as if they’re aware they’re in a GB manga and they should just get over it quickly. Going back and reading the first few chapters and comparing it to the Kou TS arc it might as well be a different story.

I thought there was genuine despair a few chapters back but i have to recognize that this is a comedy manga first so ofc it was played for laughs.

Genuine despair in manga versus just sulking usually has very different visual language than what we saw in that chapter. We'd get a full page of Kou sitting alone, eyes hidden. Someone walking up to talk to them. Silence. Close-up of Kou's hand clenching into a fist. I believe this very manga had at least one moment like that when Yukio thought she'd possibly be fixed male.

I'm happy the appeal finally clicked with Kou-chan! I guess it was a case of "the loli doth protest too much methinks". I mean if Kou really hated all the dress up times we would've seen brooding, despair and genuine anger/resentment. Not pouting, whining and flimsy protests. Experiencing it on her own terms instead of Natsuki breathing down her neck was all that was needed.

Now I'm wondering if on some deep unconscious level Kou was jealous of all his friends this whole series and just never admitted it to himself.

I'm thinking his trigger is wanting to be one, whether subconsciously or not. Just like how Yukio's is their love for Kou.
