Enjoyed the woodworking facts, but one thing- that's not a chisel, that's a gouge! A chisel has a flat back for cutting flat surfaces. A gouge is rounded for scooping out material when carving. The carpenter is shown using a gouge to cut the wedged tenon flush, but this is a job you'd do with a chisel.

Theres a way you can join the family, but Im not entirely sure the people of 14th century germany are fond of gay marriage...
There's always a "boston marriage" which would be 2 women living exclusively with each other independent of men. Such relationships have been common in history whether or not they were romantic.

Learning about different cultural family structures is quite fascinating as there's like, well over a dozen different kinds of structures in the world.

yeah I was wondering about that I remember seeing that in a woodcarving book but I just figured maybe they were making divets in this one

[1] Animal glue is made from the collagen of connective tissue. Hence, hides and tendons are an important source.

[2] Ema is a low-grade bitch through most of this story. She could have proceeded swiftly to effect a solution to Rachel's problem, but instead Ema monkey-dances.

My original fear that the locals other than Rachel and the knight would consider Ema a witch and that causing some kind of drama seems unfounded. It seems she is both accepted and well loved, and that keeps our medieval education free from such speed bumps as burning people and heresy! 🥰

... while the concept of the "law of similarity" is ancient, I think it wasn't called that until quite a bit after this point in history ...

See, the belief that souls reside in otherwise inanimate objects is a rather well-known belief in humans called animism (Which comes from "anima"). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animism

I also think that since we are beings of energy, part of our "essence" is transmitted to some of the things we touch, make or the places we inhabit.
