Anyone defending Ciel is just wrong as wrong as she was for letting Aurora change the castle and then keeping it that way after Aurora left. Ch 1 Karina clearly states that she intends to get revenge on the Prince and her sister, that was one of the last things that Karina said before she left and went missing. Why would Ciel think it’s a good idea to say that Aurora came by changed all of Karina’s things and left her a plush (I find this one a little hard for Ciel to know the full context of but it’s still from Aurora) with a smile on her face. She fucked up big time, and Karina going off on her is fully deserved.

Perhaps she couldn't just say no, to letting a fiance's royalty let in the castle? Or just she was too soft.

People here really trying to claim those maids and other servants got out safely either have no idea how fast an avalanche moves or are just being willfully ignorant of their death.

On page 27 we get a nice clear view of the castle from the hill Karina is standing on and we can see the only sides with slopes the avalanche could come from are the right, or behind it. On page 30 we can see it crashing from behind the castle and moving very clearly in the same direction as the caravan leaving the castle and literally right on them screaming for help, then on page 31 from the same hill we could see the full castle and surroundings the entire area is now buried in snow and debris that is still flowing down the path the caravan was leaving on.

They didn't outrun it, they didn't just step to the side of it, those people are 100% buried and gone, and any writing to say otherwise means either the author fucked up the art(since they are also the artist) or they are ass-pulling them from the grave.

Now on the topic of who caused it, we simply don't know at this time. It could've been Karina asking for it, it could've been the sister thinking she was still in the castle, hell it even could've been natural, we don't know.
assuming the author themself know about how fast an avalanche is.

Also I find many japanese authors fails to show the urgency of certain scenes, especially when it's not related to fighting. So a scene like escaping from an avalnche or treating someone whose arm was cutted off and it's critically loosing blood have the same pace and transition style then a normal non critical scene of the story. Not sure if it's a sort of narrative tradition that the environment push for, until the authors get enough experience to undesrtand that wrong by narratology tenets.

If I haven't already said that back in chapter 2 or smth with the flashback showing Karina was basically treated as backup when it came to the engagement because Aurora was sick, I do hope Reshutoka MAULS the fucking parents now that we've seen she'd just cause an avalanche for Karina on demand (she down bad).

MC acted like a stuck up manipulative bitch her whole life (and still is a bit) because you raised her wrong and with no love. And now your younger daughter is probably a spoiled brat who thinks she's doing a favour to Karina by taking pitty, if not actively wanting her dead in the future if Karina's alliance with the wolves is seen as a threat to her future position as Queen.

Yes, the parents are abominable peope, but I think you might have Aurora a bit wrong. She seems like the type of person who is all "weak" and "helpless" seeming but on the inside, she's incredibly cutthroat. However, she's conniving and makes sure not to come across as anything but caring, sensitive, etc. She's got a plan and it's probably even worse than we can think. She has 0 love for Karina and wants her out of the way (most likely permanently), but she'll make sure other people are doing her dirty work for her and doing it in the way that they'll never suspect that Aurora is the one who planned the entire thing. She wants everyone to think she's just a poor wilting flower, etc and wouldn't hurt a flea.....

Late reading this but hell yes!!!!!
Villainess time!!!!

The main couple would definitely be the villains if this was a more traditional story, but they take centre stage here and I love that. These kinds of stories are always so good, especially when they let the villain protagonists actually behave villainously instead of just being misunderstood.
Anyway, Aurora was clearly trying to apologize with those gifts, but after a lifetime of being treated secondarily to her, Karina is incapable of interpreting it that way. I sincerely doubt every maid made it out on time too. Finally feels like this story's really going somewhere.
I don't really get where people are getting the "Aurora is actually evil" idea from. All of her actions make just as much or even more sense if she loves Karina and is trying to protect her. The most damning thing she's done is tell the prince she'd "take care of her", but she knows the Prince wants Karina dead, so she just as well might've been lying to his face and instead is taking charge of "dealing" with her sister to protect her from the inside. We don't know, the story still hasn't told us anything about what Aurora is actually thinking, only Karina's biased impression of her, so it's still too early to say anything on the matter. But tbh I think some of you are viewing Karina a little too sympathetically just because she's the protagonist, and vice versa reading the actions of all the (presumed) antagonists far too uncharitably.

Also if you ask me the story just works better if Aurora is genuinely a good person. Her plan to sacrifice herself to save her sister from a marriage that was forced on her, instead ends up putting her sister on a path to becoming a tyrannical monster who destroys the kingdom? That's some delicious dramatic irony. Whereas if Aurora turns out to be just another evil scheming noble, that'd be really bland, I think.

Okay, so Ciel was mistreated, no two ways to look at it. But, keep this in mind, our MC is not a good person. This is not like those other villainess stories where the villainess is misunderstood and has a hear to gold, or is really a reincarnated person who will break her cycle of evil deeds. This girl is as arrogant and vile as normal villainesses tend to be. Not only is she planning revenge on those that wronged her, she is willing to manipulate and use those around her to make her point. Her getting rid of the maid and destroying the castle is a symbol of her cutting ties with her family (thus, she is dismissing the servants they provided her), and she no longer considers their kingdom as her home (thus burying the last place she ever considered "home").
As for her sister, I don't know if she is supposed to be a good person, but we haven't been shown ANY evidence that she is on her sister's side. She is fully aware the prince sent assassins to get rid of her big sister. Her only reaction to that was, "they failed, and you want to send an army now? Don't do it, it would draw too much attention, leave her to me instead." It doesn't look like she has MC's best interests in mind, if she had, she would've stood up for her in some sort of way, shape or form. We haven't seen ANY signs of this being the case. And the fact she actually managed to convince the prince to leave her sister in her hands means she could've intervened at any point to help her a bit. So no, I don't get good vibes from the younger sister. Maybe I was spoiled by the little sister in "The Perfect Saintess" story.

I mean Ciel basically betrayed MC by letting her bitch of a sister inside the castle and do whatever so wanted with it
This is only true if Ciel works for Karina and not Karina's family. If she is someone assigned to her by her parents, then her loyalties are towards the family. If the castle and the maid really belong to Karina, then it's a betrayal. If Karina doesn't own the castle, and it belongs to the family, then the maid has no say in the matter of letting Aurora in and allowing her to change things as she pleases...what with her being a noble, and the royal princess, how is a humble maid supposed to even say no to a person like that?

I wasn’t expecting her to ask Reshutoka to BURY THE DAMN CASTLE. Was it right after they left? Or did she wait for the caravan to arrive? I mean, it’s still quite vile to make them run away in the middle of an avalanche instead of waiting to be sure the castle is vacated.

I understand where Karina’s hatred came from, but it does leave a bad aftertaste when she’s treating the maid that way. The maid might not know about the family beef...

And honestly, Aurora came to the castle, heard Karina has been fucking MISSING and just… made the place pretty. I don’t think she thought Karina would come back, since she knows the prince sent assassins after her — Karina could have “succumbed to the elements” just like the mercenaries did and they have had yet to find the body. To me it seemed like she was reclaiming the castle. “Oh she’s gone so our family’s castle is vacant, let me give the maids a sob story and say I want to make it pretty for Karina while I am actually expecting to come back in a few days to my new winter vacation house and hear that she’s still missing before the Kingdom declares her dead.”

Don’t get me wrong, Aurora could care about her sister, but in my head if she was really worried she would have stayed until Karina’s arrival, not gotten to the place, receive the information she’s missing, renew the whole damn thing and then LEAVE. I think she assumed it was a lost case and moved on rather quickly — I do think she was also under the impression Karina became a bad apple, since her parents probably fed that to her, y’know?

Now, I wonder how the kingdom will react to the maids reporting Karina showed up with a random ass girl with ANIMAL EARS and said “I’m living with her now”. They will send people looking for the Wolf Tribe, won’t they? Karina unintentionally exposed to the damn kingdom the location of a small population they thought to be extinct — and while the Royal family might now they still exist, people like Karina’s family don’t. I really do hope the balding prince doesn’t ask for the guard to annihilate the tribe out of spite. Here is hoping he assumes Karina was tricked by the beasts and will soon be eaten alive (not wrong, but not the type of eating he'd be thinking).

About the castle being destroyed, it confused me a bit because the cover shows Karina in a palace-like place, so I assumed her and Reshutoka would be coming back and forth from the tribe to the castle or something. Yeah, the cover could just be for artistic purposes and stuff but WHAT IF PUPPY WIFE DEADASS BUILDS A CASTLE-LIKE HOUSE FOR KARINA NOW????

"Guys she is a PRINCESS for real so the PRINCESS needs a CASTLE!!! We need to learn about human architecture NOW!! QUICK! Otherwise she won't let me consummate the marriage for real."

Edit: Now looking at the cover it could be the chalet she's building but with a FUCKING throne in a room with big ass windows.
Oh man I guess we will see bloodbath soon

Vengeance is an ugly, ugly road. Someone who willingly chose to walk that path of briars will find themselves only sat upon a throne of corpses all alone. If Reshutoka was a demon hungry for darling Karina's soul and was spicing her up for the final meal, I'd understand. But at this point, everything is far too murky. Let us watch how this play unfolds and see which side it falls. Either way, I'm sure it'll be endlessly entertaining. As the adage said, 'When you seek vengeance, you must dig two graves.'

Idk seems pretty dang obvious that Ciel and Aurora are actually on Karina's side.

But our FMC is to emotionally damaged to recognize it, so she only sees what she wants to see.

The only real question is if she can stop being her own worst enemy and reach out for help from people who truly care before she does something she cannot undue, like take a life.
