setting aside the yuri (or lack thereof) - yeah from my experience this is pretty much what happens irl provided you're not in extremely shitty company. most people either think it's neat, don't really care, or are "closeted" geeks themselves.

back in high school i kept mostly to myself since i didn't really think anyone else would be into "hardcore" gaming (a.k.a any games aside from fifa, and later on fortnite) or anime/manga - but in the years since not only have i discovered that not only did over 50% of the people (both guys AND girls) around me watch anime like demon slayer, mha, and re:zero to name a few; and that like 1/4 of the guys in my grade have respectably sized steam libraries - but that most of them don't talk about it simply because it's never brought up.
the moment it is brought up, most are quite happy to talk about about it - just these past 2 months, me and 2 other random guys from the office have been regularly convening to discuss and research potential pc upgrades over our lunch break.

the only hobby I've got that really does appear to not be shared with anyone else in my surroundings is my penchant for listening to death metal and its derivatives - but even then, most people's reaction is basically along the lines of "just keep it to your headphones or to a low volume when I'm around" and that's it.
