I hate how much "adversity" the mangaka of today put their characters under, it's so boring to have the characters face "impossible" odds back to back to back and then pull the a conveniently lubed plot convenience answer dildo out of their assholes.

Constant escalation and the author don't know to dial it back. this is a problem in a lot of places, take the MCU ever threat is a world or galaxy ending event, not even city wide disasters any more, go big or go home is the motto.

Japanese main characters will do literally anything but let people die who actually deserve it. I was actually hoping he would be forced to run. This seems like the perfect situation for the author to be like, " yeah he grows incredibly fast while under pressure, but it has its limits." Then we could come back to this mantis in the future after he's grown more, maybe as him completing a goal he set after having to escape, or because he has to rechallege it because he needs one of its body parts or fluids for an important reason.
