What does this mean by supporters won't see it, I've got the namicomi subscription but I've never had a supporter badge. I dont know if I dont have then connected properly or something.

Not really sure, but from here your user is orange not purple/blue, in the forums your status is updated after log-out/log-in, but if from the normal side of MD you don't see the supporter status you didn't properly set the connection, @Angry_Panda any tip for reviewing/troubleshoot the connection, I remember there was a post for that but is very late to spend time searching

Assuming @ARandomBot has the MD sub on NC, then connect the reader (mainsite) MD profile (My Profile) to the NC account, logout/login, and that should get it on the reader side. Then logout/login on the forum side if needed.

That never was the point.

Some points are:

• Mangadex serves ads for a malicious? web browser.
• There was a promise that'd it wouldn't (apart from crisis?).
• There does not exist an overview, I can find, where managedex costs and amount of donations are show.
• The operation is opaque.
• The supporter tiers are subscriptions.
• Will using ad blocker be against the ToS? (asking half jokingly)

I personally know people that don't use ad blocker. They do exist. And they also use Chrome and are the prime target for the ads.

Just saw an ad flash before the userscript took over and fixed the ui, so was very confused as never having any ads (besides the april fools ones) was an important part of the mission statement. For a moment I thought it might even be related to that aquisition, as if the change of owner included a change of the owner's morals!

As long as the ad is NOT redirecting me to another website (when I don't even click on it/just by clicking on the BASE website) and starts downloading 'something' in the background, im fine with anything.

Don't worry, they won't be neither popups nor popunders (the ones you mentioned)

You forgot the other important part of ads: Zero Javascript. Anything else is a huge battery-drain at best, and a worse security-exploit at worst.
And since they are labeled as non-intrusive: Zero audio, and zero animation.

I was not intending to reply to another comment in this thread, but I had to point out that (note that everything is paraphrased and exaggareted to make my point clearer) "you state they are non-intrusive, but they are not non-intrusive" can't be counter-argued with "it is intrusive to only a subset of users" (no idea if the subset is majority or minority, but it is not countering the argument either way).
If it is intrusive for a subset of users, it is per-definition not non-intrusive.

So, I use dark mode on mobile and iPad, so the current ad does not really bother me.
But I use light mode on pc,so the black on white is pretty distracting (esthetically)
Is it possible for MD to have like a dark/light mode aware ad?

I hate to use the slippery slope but where is this going?

First we had that support Mangadex notification that went away after the campaign. Simple notification with both options same size.
Then the notification came back.
Then the notification changed from click once a day to click once two hours and the support button was enlarged as well as the clicked version started glimmering.
Then we got "select non-intrusive ads" that take the first space we see and is the only coloured thing on often monochrome page.

So what's next?

Yes, and this one won't fall on any of the common lists, as it's just an image hosted on mangadex.org with a direct link.

I agree with some others (and it has been a thought in my head for some time) that there is no financial transparency on costs vs income for mangadex, and how excess is used (when it's the case)
being a supporter does not add transparency to this, even though I'd be happy to understand if, for example, me donating more could make a change (without data it's difficult to know)

I can think of several (simultaneous) ways:

• issuing a regular informal update (meaning giving an idea of how things stand without mentioning any sensitive data) so anybody can have an idea of how things are (and understand a bit in advance when ads might come in)
• allowing supporters a bit more details on costs and incomes (maybe some hard numbers) (again no need for sensitive data, as long as the info comes from a defined role/person from staff, I see no reason for distrust) so I can have an idea how much my donation weighs in the overall picture
• maybe thinking of having a punctual internal audit (by an independent supporter for example) that could give a little insight on mangadex decisional structure and protocol (regarding) finances and allowing a second opinion on the informal reports coming from mangadex without, again, disclosing any unnecessary sensitive data

i'm very appreciative of mangadex efforts until now, and i feel things are generally going well; but i feel for some things there is still too much opacity (for me it would be finances and ad choice criteria at the moment), and i'm happy to support improving that if i can

i'm not sure where/if there is a better space for this topic (there's no supporter channel on discord (and i prefer the forum))

i have experience with audits in the non-profit sector, in case it can be useful

Having used and still using both regular Opera and GX,they sucked a lot,they suck less nowadays,but otherwise Edge works somewhat better and doesn't fill my Goddamn bookmark pages with more adds and even pages I don't want bookmarked.

Especially when I compared the bull crap number of instances those three have in Task Manager.

Okay like do what you gotta do but I feel compelled to report that "smack dab in the middle of every manga's description" is not really succeeding at the stated goal of "unobtrusive" for me.

Like, that's breaking up information I parse frequently and rapidly in the constant hunt for new stuff to read. There are worse places ads could go, but this doesn't feel great.

Just a thought for next time, I guess.
