I know it was ending, but I wasn't expecting it to end this suddenly. Series was a great read either way.

There's another arc with the navy? I may or may not read that. If the JSDF is already curb stomping them on land and in the air, they probably are curb stomping them on the sea too. Also, it reminds me of another series that I haven't read about a Japanese aircraft carrier or something being isekaid or at least sent to the past...

Anyway, thanks for all the hardwork translators!

Now a little review for those who care:
  • Rare series with modern weapons VS fantasy so the premise is quite unique. Heck, it's my first one, and tbh I don't recall other series, at least on this scale. Can anyone recommend another good series? I can only reread Codex Alera so many times. Gawd I wish that gets an anime or manga adaptation...
  • I think JSDF has been winning 99.99% of the battles they were involved with. I know I know, modern Earth with all its technology and history is a huge advantage, but I would love to see the fantasy side have or grow to have a fighting chance.
  • I'm also aware the author wrote this series as a propaganda piece which is why the JSDF won not only vs the fantasy world, but also VS other countries. Do I have a problem with that? Not really since the US does that all the time, and IIRC the US military requires the US forces to win if they're using their vehicles in movies. Still, we missed out on a lot of interesting developments, and I respect the author that he still managed to tell an interesting story even it's behind propaganda-tinted glasses. He did more than whatever crap came out of Hollywood recently.
The title you're thinking of is Zipang and it wasn't an aircraft carrier but a ficticious JMSDF "Yukinami-class" destroyer, based on the real kongo-class that was sent to the past to WWII.

Another series with modern weapons vs fantasy is Nihonkoku Shoukan where the whole country is transported to a fantasy world and just as much of a propaganda piece for Japan nationalism.

Did Tyuule seriously get strangled to death by a dying man

unfathomable skill issue tbh
I believe she was stabbed with the same knife she killed him with. She left it stuck inside him and he grabbed her and stabbed her stomach

Wow is it really over. I've been reading this series since the anime damn near a decade ago.

Honestly wasn't much of fan of this entire final war arc. The whole multiple dimensions thing and the bug fight just made no sense.

My favorite part of the whole series were the slice of life section with fantasy races back at alnus interacting with modern tech.

Man no one here sad about hamilton getting the short stick rip probably one of the more likeable characters
Going to be honest... I couldn't remember who she was lol. Between the length of time between chapters and all the chaos from this war arc and it's 5 billion characters. She just kinda got lost in the background.

That why season 2 exist ...

And if you guys notice ...that season 2 anime announcement was actually out when this manga side ending
Season 2 has nothing to do with season 1 though. Completely new characters with a completely different branch of the military in a completely new area.

As someone who's been reading from the very first chapter, i just can't enjoy this ending. The author lost the plot around 6 years ago so i'm not really shocked. Rushed nonsense but at least we can finally close the lid on this tragic tale. What a waste

Oh yeah it was Zipang, thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't mind nationalism as long as it doesn't make the story too boring. I just wish things were more even when armies clash to make things interesting.

They did grow though? We saw them do stuff like impersonating JSDF personnel to cause chaos behind the lines, they began adapting camo and ambush tactics more often, you even saw a couple JSDF deaths and equipment losses in the later chapters. Even the fact they managed to bait the JSDF into a wild goose chase while their main force is marching towards Italica is commendable.

But lets be real, there's no way you can write them having a fighting chance when the technological gap is this big, only time the fantasy side saw a real win was when a literal demi goddess wiped the floor with the foreign special forces back during the hot spring chapter.
Yeah I'm aware they adapted a bit, but I felt like the author just threw them some scraps to make it seem like they're not completely stupid even if yes, their technology and tactics are literally ancient.

That's why in other series, lack of technological progress is usually balanced out with magical progress as it's equivalent. However, the author decided to nerf magic from the start. If the JSDF got isekaid into another world with better magical progress/strength, things would have been a lot more interesting, and harder for the JSDF.

Rory is in their side though... to be clear when I said fantasy side I meant larger scale and from the hostile side involving armies or countries.

I at least like the part with Lelei improving magic when she learned about modern concepts like physics. Missed opportunity for that info to leak into enemy hands, and their magic (and the enemies in the isekai world) to improve.

Really?
Don't all the trash they have serve as beacon to their original plane? Lelei is even holding a pair of sunglasses...
