Tin foil hat, but i don't think his abilities changed at all. He copies the ability of his "opponent" (why the slap was needed). Now my theory is that their relationship has gotten to the point where either he cannot even subconsciously view them as a possible enemy or they can't (depending on if it "opponent" is based off his or the other's position).

Nah its not a limit, they have to be a "enemy"
The slap was to trigger combat. But they trust each other to much now, so they can't see each other as enemies, so the slap isn't treated as a attack anymore.
