Depends on the 'space' although i'm surprised they'd bother considering so many 'catch and release' strays after being spayed/neutered (like the cats wandering around with a 'chip'/chunk of their ear missing), i wouldnt be surprised if cats/dogs are considered more of a 'luxury' in JP esp for apartments and stuff (if not a narrative plot point to push MC into adopting it)

After learning more about the evolutionary niche of cats, 'catch and release' seems kind of terrible as well. They'll wipe out all the native birds.
