The Sven church really wants to ruin the relations between the two countries entirely if they are planning to assassinate their own prince on Leberis's soil. That would pretty much equal to spitting on the face of the Leberis leadership entirely. Do they want an open war or something? Such a church of evil, yet they still have the audacity to pretend to be a good faction, performing healing miracles and everything.

If they really do assassinate the prince there, Leberis should forcefully split the Leberis church from the main church. Many a regular believer wouldn't really care in the long run, as long as they still get their services. That's what happened in the Protestant Reformation in Europe. Some would move to Svendyardvania, but so what? Maybe some disgusted by the church of evil in Svendyardvania would move to Leberis in return, where a reformation would clean the religion of the deep corruption.
Maybe thats the game plan all along? kill the prince on foreign soil to incite war that will be led by the puppet prince so that he gets more credibility when he wants to claim the throne which is also good for the church?

Not really. In the end it all boils down to sheer power.

This part of the story (Pope vs King, Church and Royal factions) is actually based on real life power struggle between Holy Roman Emperor's and Roman Catholic Church. Sometimes Pope would just excommunicate the Emperor, and at one time Rome was burned and sacked for a few years starting with 1527. It is truly an interesting read whoever is interested in it.

I'm kind of hoping we'll be seeing more than just swordplay out of this. I'd love to see the old man go up against hammers, axes, polearms...just imagine the fight he'd have against a partizan user who is an expert at parrying.

I hate myself for watching the anime and spoiling me of this arc's resolution.
But I'm glad the mangaka took a divergent path to spice things up, so let's see how he manages this story.
Also hyped for the fights :meguupog:
Anime looked rough so I never started. How was it?

Also very interested to see how this all plays out since he is OP. I'm assuming the crowd and such will make it impossible to fight properly. They were out in the road let time so you can devote all your attention to the opponent and sparring at work is the same

We might actually get some more villains in this arc than the anime.

I guess the anime followed the LN. Which is quite hollow compared to the manga.

Fuck you mean rough? Looking pretty was one of the few redeeming qualities it had. With all the myriad differing unsatisfying writing decisions being the obvious downsides.

Some of the more important fights are decently animated in 3D, but the story follows the LN; it is barebones compared to the manga. For example, the church arc with Myui didn't have ANY of those church characters(Robery, Euro, Gollen, Schupple), no Twilight vs Lucy fight, no 3v1 R-E-G vs Beryl, no Kurumi fight, no Schupple fight. It was only 2 eps and he fought a nameless mook at the end, it was terribly bare bones. The Myui new-family moment where everyone got together an ate dinner? Never happened in the anime/LN; instead some dump plot about mice in the house with only Beryl and Myui. Better to forget the anime exists.

I feel your pain :meguuusad: . I stepped away after the church arc once someone told me they were following the LN, and saw how lackluster it was. I wasn't about to spoil myself on what happened(though some f'kn nimrod spoiled a detail in the comment section a few chaps back 😠 ).

Anime was pretty looking, and that was it.
1st episode was ok-ish, from that point on it was a slog. Fights had really dull choreography, and most of the times they were almost a slideshow with pretty CGI effects; take in consideration the fights were the best part of the anime; voice acting was barely decent, and design wise everyone but Surena got a debuff.
I ended every episode thinking "the manga did it way better", and once it reached stories not covered in the manga yet my only though was "I wonder how will the manga improve this lame adaptation".
I really won't recommend you watching it.

Oh, no... it can't be... the church has an assassination squad... they never would do something so shady, they are holy and good (read with DEEP SARCASM).

no Schupple
Do not slander barebones. If it had no Schupple, it's a reinterpretion, not just bareboned.

The entire arc was set for only 2 things. One was his new charge, Myui. Another was his counterpart, Schupple.

Both played very important role in this Manga to show the old man humanly love for sword. Not obsessed, but genuine dedication and admiration for the craft and its impact on person.

beryl's charm is really very amazing, making all former students become dilf lover :lul: and aleurcia feels little jealous when beryl is close to roze, even though he only wants to pray together.

Thank you for translating
Ngl I think only aleucia has feelings for berly

Slena most likely sees him as her dad, Kurumi sees him as her sensei and Roze is just teasing aleucia knowing about her crush

Also thanks for the cap!

Feel like roze being set up to betray him as the spy she seems to devout to just support the princes royal faction.

As for the shnapple fight being a draw that's bs mc is too humble he dogged him

sure he "won" but snapapple still had the ability to heal himself and even managed to sneak away when everyone else showed up, while our favorite sword-saint-to-be was unconscious and slowly bleeding out in the dirt! i think saying it was a draw is fair
