You all are getting mad at the site. You should be getting mad at the group creating the problem in the first place, and that is the evangelical christians in the US that think they can dictate their preferences over everyone but themselves. This is the same group that claims 'my body, my choice" when it comes to vaccines, but "your body, my choice" when it comes to sex, abortions or anything else they don't like. They claim to be small government, then promptly shove the government into every facet of your life.

For example, Texas. Strict abortion ban. Then sues other states to get information on Texas residents that traveled to get an abortion. Then you have the elephant in the room, SB 20, that went into effect in Sept 2025. Do I believe it is unconstitutional, yes I do. But to get it declared by a court, you have go through the legal process and multiple levels of appeals, as I guarantee that the Texas AG will fight for it, regardless of the merits. And don't forget this is a criminal matter, not a civil matter. Between that and US courts deciding they have jurisdiction regardless of how removed the defendant may be from that court, and you start to understand how the reluctance of the staff of MD to being the canary about the legality of this law.

or promotes obscene visual material containing a depiction that
appears to be of a child younger than 18 years of age engaging in

animation, or an image created using an artificial intelligence
application or other computer software; or
(2) uses an image of an actual child younger than 18
years of age at the time the image was made with the intent to train
an artificial intelligence model to produce visual material
constituting child pornography under Section 43.26.
(c) An offense under this section is a state jail felony,
except that the offense is:
(1) a felony of the third degree if it is shown on the
trial of the offense that the person has been previously convicted
one time of an offense under this section or Section 43.23, 43.26,
43.261, or 43.262; or
(2) a felony of the second degree if it is shown on the
trial of the offense that the person has been previously convicted
two or more times of an offense under this section, Section 43.23,
43.26, 43.261, or 43.262, or any combination of those offenses.
(d) If conduct constituting an offense under this section
also constitutes an offense under another law, the actor may be
prosecuted under this section, the other law, or both.

Now, if you have the finances and wherewithal to fight this in court, it's easy. Just create a Texas hosted site featuring underage manga characters and don't hide your information as the domain holder. Then you can spend the next several years fighting through the appeals process, and it can take a decade or more depending on how many times it gets sent back to lower courts.

The above is my guess based on what I've seen, though it could be a different legal issue. Same result regardless.

So you can stop bitching that the staff are protecting themselves. Does it suck, yes, but it's more of an annoyance to me than anything else, just like the DMCA nuke last year. And if this is the hill you are willing to die on, why are you still bitching on the forums here, just move on for fucks sake.

Hey @Bartolumiu, since it appears you're the only one from the staff with a brain, who do I have to contact to have my entire account and all its associated data deleted? I have decided to finally leave this cesspool. With mods like these and the lack of communication before any sweeping action is taken, be it censoring or completely deleting series, I no longer have any faith in the site and its staff members.

The backend devs are working on a solution for both username changes and account deletions right now.
For now, the only options are either to wait until it's available again or I can ban the account and add a note indicating the deletion request (I recommend the former tho).

I guess I'll wait for the account deletion feature, it gives me time to back up my follows. Also, please pass along to the backend devs a feature request for follow import/export, it would make life easier instead of having to manually write down the ~300+ series I'm following. Also, do you have any insight if the "delete account" feature will actually delete all data from your servers, or only raise a "deleted" flag on the account and make it unavailable but keep its data in the servers?

Nope, because they REMOVED DELETED titles post namicomi aquisition. They lied heavily about DMCA because they were already deleting titles they didnt like back then.

if you have any sources of suspicion except 'they delete', you should post it, this is like trying to escalate drama where it shouldn't be, iirc there's listing of the deleted titles, give me a title you think it's removed unfairly

I'm willing to pay to support anything that provides value to me, be it MD or otherwise. I mostly use MD for titles that don't or won't have an official TL(or one that doesn't suck), and for discovery and comments on ones I have purchased. I used to have a CR account right up until they deleted the comments, now I use alternate sources, both legal and otherwise. At the same time, I understand that not everyone has the financial ability to do this, as your personal life comes first.

That was mainly aimed at the sky is falling crowd, and I imagine several of them were complaining during the DMCA purge last year as well.

Seeing this very late.
Is there a way to export your followed list? I'm having trouble finding it but I know (or I think) back in the day I used it to migrate from the dying bato.to to MangaDex. So might as well do it again to migrate from the dying to MD to... wherever else.
Some of the series I'm following seem very elligible to a purge (in technicality even GochiUsa could be) and who knows if any have fallen already.

Also subscribing to how laughable it is that a piracy site is citing "legal reasons".

Can't believe I missed this discussion until now... well, here's my two cents.

First, I agree that this purge is a bad idea and with a justification that doesn't make sense. Loli and shota content is much less illegal than the pirated content that fills this site. I also agree that EtherealNeko should be punished for their first post in this thread, as any normal user would.

Second... this thread has really made me pity forum moderators. On top of the insults and (thankfully rare) threats, there's been so many weird tangents about countries*, sexuality, religion etc.

*: the ones about Australia actually made me laugh, especially the occasional insults. Have any of those commenters ever been here?

Stop the misinformation. Titles being removed depict sexual activity between characters that are minors, either in appearance (handled on a case-by-case basis) or confirmed in the dialogue. It's about law and compliance with it. If you jerk it off to little kids, go and do it elsewhere; there are sites that specialise in that.
