This is genuinely fucking with my head. I get that the eggs are unfertilized, but that both hens can actually speak and are willingly handing over eggs for the humans to eat is just too fucking bizarre for me. The only reason I can rationalize it with chickens is because they are animals and chickens specifically pump out eggs when overfed. But for the egg layer to be sapient and give the unfertilized eggs to another sapient creature to consume is just beyond the pale for me.

It's not surprising at all, really. I raised chickens for years, and they'll happily eat their own eggs shell and all if they get damaged.

I could definitely see a sentient chicken having a similar laissez-faire attitude to their everyday unfertilized eggs.

It's happened in many manga and web novels over the years. The last one I can easily remember is the Kokkos in Arafoo Kenja no Isekai Seikatsu Nikki, which are basicly sapient martial arts chickens.

Hey, if you popped out a chunk of high protein every few days that was otherwise worthless I'm sure you'd eventually eat it at some point. Some chickens definitely get over protective of all eggs but most really won't care about unfertilized eggs if they have the right temperament.

If its been a year its probably trained behaviour.
Cats give mice to their owners dogs show their belly.
You give chickens enough food and care they are giving you it back.

Jokes aside, it doesn’t really feel like a 20 page chapter. It’s like not much actually happens. Don’t get me wrong, like I said, it’s still a fun read. But I think I’ll wait until there are at least 20–30 more chapters before I start reading again.

Maybe my point is, slice-of-life stuff like that is easy to pump out when it's just text, because even the most meandering descriptions cost you nothing. But wasting what's probably a week (two weeks?) of the artist's time on this feels like crime.

The one plot point that actually matters here is that not only the MC is immune to all status change effects, but can also nullify them for anyone he touches. But that could've been easily moved to the previous chapter, so ehh.
